kinda gives a person goose bumps...then it turns to sadness when you think about all the people who gave their lives to defend the flag and what it represents over so many years.....

"rampert" is spelled rampart.

The account is fairly fictionalized - Key went aboard the British shop near Washington, not Baltimore, so the British officers couldn't be pointing out Fort McHenry.  Also, the fort WAS a military fort, and was designed to protect the sea approaches to Baltimore.  Unfortunately, they only had army-type field guns at the time, which couldn't match the range of the British naval guns.

The singing is very good, but the anthem's range in octaves has always been challenging for ordinary people.  I especially am tired of the "soul" versions at sporting events.  Instrumental versions with a good band are always great.

It is a very stirring anthem regardless of its beginnings. My Great Great Great Grandfather fought in the War of 1812 but I don't think he took part in the attack on Washington.

Yes, I caught them as well when I posted it, but the meaning remains, these people fought and died for their freedom and ours .

Yeah, it's like watching a movie where a 20 mile car chase ends and all the cars have steam exhaust coming out of their tailpipes, all because no one bothered to warm the vehicles up before the final scene.
Point is, does this screw up destroy the entire move, or does one move on and enjoy the show?

it bothers me.  and I think it bothers others.  The event is awesome.  They can't make sure they have the lyrics spelled right???  All the public school educated arrogant ignoramus had to do was the copy it from the original.    what the hell is the problem with that?

It is ironic that this anthem was written during the War of 1812, yet even though the US lost the war, the freedoms granted in the Constitution carried on as before. And the Presidential mansion got a fresh new coat of white paint. Your liberty is a lot stronger than you seem to believe. You underestimate the strength of your Republic, regardless of who wins in 2020. If you can survive Teapot Dome, you can survive anything.
