If Only They Had Heeded His Words
« on: August 02, 2016, 12:39:24 PM »
James Garfield addressing Congress at the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1876:

“Now more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature … If the next centennial does not find us a great nation…it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”

How profound. Think about those remarks and then think about some of our current members of congress.

Congresscritters are a reflection of the people that elect them, as Garfield said. You won't see a conservative elected in a socialist district. Looking at the crop we have now in both chambers, we have some mighty ignorant people doing the electing.

It exposes just how corrupt the GOP has become in such a short amount of time.
I was researching an argument against a third party attempt by Conservatives, and thought this rather telling moment as to what a third party faces if it wants to compete, it needs money, the same money that corrupted the GOP in the first place, they sold out their principles, looked the other way while someone stuffed their pockets full of cash.

Here's the article. I could put a boot up these idiots asses for even considering this idiocy.
