Now IF I found that Coin, knowing it would be confiscated.....
I admire the method used in the UK; Museums have first crack at found treasure, but require the Finder be paid Fair Market Value. If no Museum wants to pay, the Finder can do as he wills with it (though I'm betting there are TAXES).
Now that I have explained that, THIS makes sense, doesn't it ?
"The authority said Monday that the ancient coin appears to be only the second of its kind to have been found. It said London's British Museum possesses the other coin."
If he is stupid enough to go public with such a find he shouldn't complain over the consequences.
"The hiker, Laurie Rimon, happened upon the shiny coin on a recent walk in Israel's eastern Galilee region. The authority said she will receive a CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION for handing over the coin."
What, no hug ?
Well, what they didn't tell you is that Israeli Certificates of Appreciation are redeemable at any brothel, deli or retail outlet in Tel Aviv for unlimited goods / services for the lifetime of the recipient. And depending on how well the IDF/Mossad like you, it may also get a bonus of one or two tactical nuclear weapons to take with you as long as one is discrete about how and where they are used (nod nod, wink wink).

Not even a pat on the head.
