I stumbled across this film while searching for osmiridium ore sample pics, the rarest ore on the planet. (Iridium, for those who play Borderlands.
Anyway, Benitoite is a soft gem and extremely rare and valuable, as seen below.
Benitoite and Neptunite
$24,500.00
25.0 x 17.5cm
This is truly a fantastic specimen, around 10 X 7 inches and loaded with lustrous, beautiful Benitoite and Neptunite crystals

The mineral was known to exist mathematically, but had yet to be discovered until the early 20th century.
Anway, take a relaxing and informative moment and enjoy a well made historic video.

Wifey has a point worth repeating...

This sounds like a guy who is too darn cheap to buy a girl a "rock"...  So, he gets a couple of friends together, they make a youtube video about some shiney stone he found down by the creek, and -she- gets a paperweight instead of a true glass-cutter.   :sneaky:

All animals are created equal; Some just take longer to cook.   Survival is keeping an eye on those around you...

Like my wife said after seeing the video. She appreciated its uniqueness and said she'd take one over a diamond any day, considering its rarity over that of a false market for the abundant diamond.
Yeah, truth is, this mineral has no actual value beyond its being so rare, too soft for a ring stone, can't cut glass, though it does have some interesting light refracting qualities.
I've always marveled at how DeBeers was able to convince an entire generation of women, that they too can be Marlyn Monroe if their man buys them a huge rock worth more than their home.

I told Toy we weren't spending more than a hundred on rings, we got titanium and they look great and no one will mug us for a steel band.
