Title: FDR: The Anatomy of a Peacemonger.
Post by: Blauritter on October 05, 2013, 03:06:06 PM
One of the President's first actions after the beginning of hostilities was to call Congress into special session and ask for the repeal of the embargo on the sales of arms to belligerent powers, which was part of the existing neutrality legislation. He based his appeal on the argument that this move would help to keep the United States at peace. His words on the subject were:

Let no group assume the exclusive label of the "peace bloc." We all belong to it ... I give you my deep and unalterable conviction, based on years of experience as a worker in the field of international peace, that by the repeal of the embargo the United States will more probably remain at peace than if the law remains as it stands today ... Our acts must be guided by one single, hardheaded thought -- keeping America out of the war.

This statement was made after the President had opened up a secret correspondence with Winston Churchill, First Lord of the Admiralty and later Prime Minister in the British government. What has been revealed of this correspondence, even in Churchill's own memoirs, inspires considerable doubt as to whether its main purpose was keeping America out of the war.

Roosevelt kept up his pose as the devoted champion of peace even after the fall of France, when Great Britain was committed to a war which, given the balance of power in manpower and industrial resources, it could not hope to win without the involvement of other great powers, such as the United States and the Soviet Union. The President's pledges of pursuing a policy designed to keep the United States at peace reached a shrill crescendo during the last days of the 1940 campaign.

Mr. Roosevelt said at Boston on October 30: "I have said this before, but I shall say it again and again and again: Your boys are not going to be sent into any foreign wars."

The same thought was expressed in a speech at Brooklyn on November 1: "I am fighting to keep our people out of foreign wars. And I will keep on fighting."

The President told his audience at Rochester, New York, on November 2: "Your national government ... is equally a government of peace -- a government that intends to retain peace for the American people."

On the same day the voters of Buffalo were assured: "Your President says this country is not going to war."

And he declared at Cleveland on November 3: "The first purpose of our foreign policy is to keep our country out of war."

Your point being that FDR was a politician and told the people what they wanted to hear? Or is it that while doing the realpolitik thing he was also preparing for what he and the majority of his closest advisor's believed that we would be soon at war with either Germany or Japan or both? Politics-get reelected, governing-see the world as it is and prepare for all eventualities.

Explains why you don't know about Cronkite, you were self indulged.
Do a search for how he lied about Nam.
Murrow and his attack on McCarthy, and yes, McCarthy was right!

How about this? Prove it wrong!
I was paying attention to Cronkite when he was outright lying, Murrow has been proven wrong on his claims about McCarthy.
McCarthy was absolutely right, history and the current Marxist in the WH is proof of that.

And yes, Hussein is a Marxist in the image of a Fabian socialist, which is what today's Marxists are.

Again, who wrote the original post?
William Henry Chamberlin (1897-1969) was an American historian and journalist. He was Moscow correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor in Moscow, 1922-1934, and Far Eastern Correspondent for the Monitor, 1939-1940. He contributed important reports and articles to leading American newspapers and periodicals, and for a time wrote a regular column for The Wall Street Journal.  Among his books were Soviet Russia (1930), Russia's Iron Age (1934), The Russian Revolution , 1917-1921 (in two volumes; 1935), Japan Over Asia (1939), The European Cockpit (1947), and America's Second Crusade (1950).

Um, OK, fine. I wasn't exactly asking you to do the research, but I appreciate that you did.

My question was directed -- twice -- at Blauritter, the original poster. The OP was not in any way designated as a quote. At the same time, it was obviously not Blauritter's original creation.

It is customary, actually required on this board, to credit your sources. That didn't get done in this case.

May the idiot rest in pain.

Cronkite admitted lying to hasten the American loss in Vietnam, openly loudly and proudly....you stupid shit.  You can find it on youtube, I'm sure,  You lying son of a bitch.

His proudest moment was lying that Linebacker and Tet didn't do any good, when they actually had the Vietcong down and out, and ready to surrender.

With his help, the OWS types of the 70's kept right on bellowing for us to quit and run, not knowing that the war was almost over due to America winning.

Happily, Cronkite helped us to lose instead of win, and helped millions of Vietnamese to suffer and die over 15 years.

Quit your damned disgraceful lying.

yeah, love that Murrow false narrative too.

McCarthy has been proven correct 1000 times over, over the years.

The US government and Hollywood especially were filthy with dedicated communists, burrowing in when they thought the pickin's were good in the turmoil after WW2.

You don't have to dig much, just read all the names and the documented truth that the folks were literally members of groups that espoused what Obama's doing today.

How can these progressives just live in a completely saturated existence of lying 24/7/365 like filthy pieces of s**t   ??

Not that long ago, lying, hating America, and being lazy worthless bums were still considered shameful.  Today they parade it all around like badges of honor.

FDR was a narcissistic megalomaniac piece of trash, just like the current resident of the WH.

Thank God he croaked before he could engineer a lifetime dictatorship.

He attacked citizens and businesses alike, who had the nerve to not embrace his socialist, dictatorial, ham fisted demands.

Funny thing is that he still had vaguely pro-America sentiments.  Obama is the original America hater, maybe in a tie with Hillary, who didn't have the pleasure of Kenyan Communist mentors and American race-war BP mentors from the 70's.........but she did have many of the same academic / domestic terrorist / communist mentors from the 60's / 70's.

FDR was anything but a peacemaker considering his involvement in profiting off of WW1 in Germany by inflating their currency and raking up cheap assets. Also he was the most connected politician in US history despite pretending to be a man of the people.

Wall Street and FDR

I also recommend Sutton's other books, Wall Street and the Bolshevik Revolution and Wall Street and the Rise of Hitler.
