I can't find the research article, but I remember reading where researchers took a vacuum, placed a small amount of pure oxygen and hydrogen in the chamber, then bombarded it with what amounted to the equivalent of a lightning strike.

The result, DNA, the building blocks of life.

The Miller-Urey experiment might be what you are thinking of.

How many thousands of GALAXIES have been identified? Within our own Milky Way we've identified many possible planets conducive to intelligent life. Multiply by the galaxies, and the math gets --- pun intended --- cosmic after that.

It's an insane number of stars in the Universe. Something on the order of 3 x 10^23 stars, or expressed as 300000000000000000000000 or three hundred sextillion.

Fascinating, has it really been that long since I heard about?

Astronomy and being out with my telescope is one of my favorite hobbies.  The number of planets out there is truly mind blowing.

I hope to see a probe land on Europa in my lifetime and I'm confident I will.  I think that is the best chance of life (although probably microscopic) in our solar system. I wouldn't be surprised to find microscopic life under the soil of Mars either. There is a surprising amount of water ice in the soil. I think I read it's a couple pints of ice per cubic foot of soil.

The experiment took a primeval cocktail of elements such as would have existed a few buillion years ago on earth, with no oxygen at all in fact, and subjected it to periodic lightning strikes.

The result was the formation of complex amino acids, organic chemicals and protiens, all the building blocks of DNA.

So not quite the formation of DNA, but close.

God made the heavens and the earth. Any 'planet forming now' would be a natural affect and not the work of God. God formed man from the dirt/dust of this earth and earth was managed and tilled by man. As far as we know there is no one else on any planet and if we do see beings like that it will be a faked illusion for political reasons and do not believe it.
And yet that same bible also tells us that other intelligent beings than man do exist....but don't believe that, no no no that's just a faked illusion...believe that mankind is the end all to be all...go figure...
One of every five Americans you meet has a mental illness of some sort. Many, many, of our veteran's suffer from mental illness like PTSD now also. Help if ya can. :) http://www.projectsemicolon.org/share-your-story.html
And no you won't find my "story" there. They don't allow science fiction. :)

Hi,
Why wouldn't a planet forming now be the work of the higher powers?  If a planet formed is it any less their will now, then before?
Blessings,
Karen

Just curious never learned that in my Bible classes so can you give me some examples?  What Book, chapter, verse?

Thanks - Toy

Hi,
Just my personal belief (nothing to cite for this), but whats to say that other groups weren't created by them also?  Or how would any of the alternate dimension type theories (that I don't fully understand) fit into this?
Blessings,
Karen

I am really sick and tired of people telling us how GOD - an Almighty, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Eternal, Transcendent being - has to work on time scales, and in ways fitting our puny conceptions. As if time means the same to GOD, as it does to man.

And you believe GOD stopped after he formed our little ball of rock because.

The best book I have read that deals with this issue is God's existence and the beginning of the universe, no matter the answer the fact that we have life on this planet is a miracle.

But I find the arrogance of atheists and so called sceptics irrational, especially the saying "I trust only what my eyes can see" as we can't see 99% of everything in front of our very eyes to begin with, let alone comprehend it in non abstract terms.

It is very interesting that infinity is an impossibility, what I find very cool though is that through radiation measurements we have proved that there was a beginning, and so forth we can do the logical assumption that there will also be an end.
