Detroit News editor/columnist Nolan Finley, from a 2011 column....

QuoteWe Need Another Reagan, Feb. 6, 2011

I was still a young man when Ronald Reagan became president, just starting a career and a family.

My first mortgage carried an interest rate north of 11 percent, and after years of unchecked inflation, my paycheck from what should have been a good job barely covered the bills.

It wasn't the financial struggle that bothered me; it was the message from Washington that I'd better get used to this new reality, that America's good times were over for good, and that the country's diminished status demanded Americans live smaller, accept less.

And then along came Reagan, a genuine Yankee Doodle Dandy, ready to jerk the nation up by its bootstraps and get it back to fulfilling its destiny. There was a little cornpone in him, but when he talked of America as a shining city on the hill, I could see its lights. ...

We need another Ronald Reagan. We'll always need another Ronald Reagan. I hope the United States in the 21st century is still a place that can spawn his kind of American.

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." A Democrat said that. Ronald Reagan was once one, too, but he wised up BEFORE he took the White House.

a liberal friend of ours said Reagan looked so good, because Carter looked so bad - implying he was just an old Irish fool wandering by the White House and got lucky.

To the contrary, Reagan had none of the conservative news outlets, media sources we have today, it was basically ALL Ronald Reagan... being himself.  We don't have anything with the combination of Reagan's demeanor, strength of character, love for the USA, hatred of Communism and hope for the future.  While the contrast from Carter was stark, I think Reagan was in a class all his own ... and doubt we'll ever be blessed with anyone like him again.

Ronald Reagan was a lousy actor but he was great president of the screen actors guild 'n a fantastic POTUS once he discovered his failings as donkeycrat, then turned his negatives into positives. The USA could use another Ronald Reagan but unfortunately the mold was broken when God gave us Ronnie, 'n no one awaits in his shadow to right the sinking ship our nation is becoming..!!

...But of course the media can't remember that, talking about Trump and that greasy little ponce Rubio, and forgetting Cruz whenever possible.......

Yep! Regan was a good man, a great man when compared to most. When he talked to America, he told us, in his own way: Everything is going to be OK. We're going to put things right.

He liked us, and he loved America.

I have books of his writings and speeches, of letters. Reading them, more so the private letters a person can hear and feel his honesty and goodness of heart.

It will be a good while before the Lord gives us another.
