You Make The Rules

Not so much rules but common sense and courtesy.  We actually have to police ourselves when one of us goes overboard.  If we are to hold people accountable we need to do it across the board.  If I step over the line I want my friends to get me back on track.  Sometimes we allow ourselves to be pulled down to a level where no decent man/woman should go and that certainly goes for me.  For example, if family is off limits, we shouldn't allow even the most vile liberal's family to be attacked.  That's my take anyhow.  As long as FAB doesn't come here I'm probably safe from attacking. ;D

You're right R2, it's easy to get sucked in.
A good example would be what Beau did in this thread, his first post was to insult a poster.
My feelings are, if you can dish it out, expect a mouth full of your own crap back in your face.

In this case, and like many others, they come in baiting, but as soon as someone goes there, they whine foul.
If I see this happening, I will not punish the person that is necessarily melting down, but rather the ass that goaded them into it.

I hope it never comes to that...
At least this week. ;)

The virulent disease known as Darwinist again rises in one of his endless string of sock-puppet names and tries his low-quality snark. Bamabeatoff should know better.

Nope, Beau is not little ricky, I have known Beau for years, we never agree, but have fun berating each other, usually with limits.

Each case is unique to be sure.  There will be posters here to run down the quality of the forum.  We can't allow that.  While I'm right with you with the instigator, we must remind our friends not to be pulled down to their level when the line may be about to be crossed.   I'm enjoying the forum.  Great job!!

Yup, that's why I don't want a list of rules.
Nothing pisses me off more than to have some moron come here and start posting in all caps and bold while flaming.
Then when told to settle down, claims they aren't breaking any rules.

Etiquette, common courtesy is all we expect from anyone.

And glad you like the place, were installing a nude water slide next week. :)

What happened here was this clown read ONE post and launched his nonsense immediately thereafter. If it walks like a Darwinist and talks like a Darwinist, it IS a Darwinist.

And I will hurt him. Every time he tries.

That's the thing We will look at, who is the real perpetrator in the collapse or meltdown of a poster.
If someone can make a case as to why they went off the deep end, say they were goaded on another thread, only to meltdown in a single post on another.
Ricky is a good example of a worthless poster, he hasn't the intellect worthy of debate and his antics and track record will sway the court to rule against him.

We all get heated from time to time, but if someone is goading or pushing buttons to instigate a meltdown of a poster, then that will be taken into consideration.

We all get heated from time to time, it's the nature of the beast, but instigating a meltdown can't be tolerated.

In conclusion, if  you and Crepe are arguing, and we can't come to a conclusion on who the instigator is, we will simply boot ricky. ;) ;D

;D That ended well. Both crepe and I will be glad you spared the other, and settled for diplomacy....

See, I'd never seen ANYTHING from this putz Bamabeatoff, and right after Darwhiner signed in, the putz began his attacks. With membership still under 50 here, I think it was a reasonable assumption under those explicit circumstances.

I do reassert the idea that you do need an explicit general Terms of Service for posters. Above, you said they could claim something wasn't in the rules and would try it. Correct them under those circumstances and you THEN sound like you made up rules on the fly.

There are also legal disclaimers to help protect you. The original YaBB agreement has been modified (elsewhere) by "a certain forum administrator," but I truthfully can say that except for its most recent additions about being paid to remove offending posts, it was a pretty good one. The problem (as noted by someone else here) was in its application.

You can't be accused of copying something from "the other forum," as much as forced to do it because for some reason it isn't easily-found in the SimpleMachines build of this platform.

I see no need for rules, common sense and common courtesy will be the rule of the forum.
Also, by having an explicit set of rules, opens you up to a new set of problems.

For example, "Beware Of Dog", sounds fine, you are warning would be intruders that they run the risk of of being bitten.
But it also sets you up for a lawsuit, it is an admittance of having a viscous dog on the premises.

Point is, sometimes when you go to court, you will hear them say, "There is no excuse for ignorance of the law".

So our rules will have a single disclaimer, "It Is Your Responsibility To Know And Understand Copyright Laws"
By joining the forum, you are agreeing to the follow all State and Federal laws regarding copyright.
You are solely responsible for your posts, CPF absolves any and all responsibility of what others post on this forum." (paraphrased)

Solars Toy

How about "Mom" rules.

Because I said so...
Don't make me come in (back) there...
If I made it you will eat it...
If all you friends jumped off a cliff would you...
Your grounded young man....
And of course the always favorite - This will hurt me more than it will hurt you...

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I pray, not wish because I have a God not a Genie.

I'll respond to this one post, Bert, to say this . . . if you don't like me or what I say, attack me.
I will extend to you and others that same courtesy.  If this forum cannot accomplish at least that,
then it is not worthy or my patronage, nor I suspect, the patronage of very many others.
I might have actually regained an iota of respect for you had your post simply said "Family should
be off limits" with no ifs, ands or buts.  The rest of your post regarding my actions here or
elsewhere, true or not, has nothing to do with respecting one another's wives and/or families.

Bama, the reality is you throw rocks at people, then when it is done to you you decide to rewrite the rules and bitch like a little girl. The bottom line is if you are easily offended stop with the crap.  As far as respecting me, fuck off. I don't care.
