Look in your program file and see if it has an uninstall link.
If not, do a search of your pooter and see if you can find it's root directory, it should come with an uninstall link.

If Solar way don't work.
Go into your Control Panel then Programs then Programs and Features.  From there you can uninstall what you would like.

In the Chrome/Iron browser environment, I'm pretty sure the Ask toolbar installs as a browser extension. If that's the case, you can open your browser settings and disable it or delete it there. Probably a similar scenario with Firefox and IE. FWIW, if IE is your browser, change NOW to Iron. It has all the nice features of Chrome -- minus having Google up your ass all the time -- and it's tons lighter and more agile than IE will ever be.

Now I also have the damned thing on my MAC. I am getting really pissed. Everything that SAYS it'll remove it costs $$$$$$, and they don't work anyway.

Suggestions?

Hmm
You must have loaded or updated Java.  I think that's add on for them.

Yep. Is Java really necessary? If so, how can I get rid of the toolbars?

Oh man, that's irritating, I have a similar issue with Yahoo taking over my browser.
But if you can remember which program it was you updated. Then that is the one that had a little check box for "would you like Ask tool bar",  and it was already checked, just uninstall the program it was attached to.

If Java, it's located in (control panel, uninstall programs) or, if you don't want to go that route, just roll back to the time when it wasn't on your computer, but you'll lose all changes from that date.

I'll check on how to do that on the MAC. I just deleted all of Java on the MAC, too, but the damed toolbar is still there.

I know (but this is WIN8) how to do it on the laptop.

Great link,  and just as I had suspected....

QuoteChances are, you've had this experience: you weren't really paying attention to all the little checkboxes and fine print when you were installing a software application, and the next time you opened up your Web browser, you found out that you, like countless others before you, had accidentally installed the Ask.com search toolbar.

I believe I successfully eliminated it through "Extensions" on the MAC.

With the laptop WIN8, I can't find out how to restore, only to create a new restore point.
