Title: Any other changes you want to see made to the forum, read the list first.
Post by: admin on September 29, 2010, 08:05:44 AM
Now when you quote, you won't have hundreds to deal with, just the person you're quoting.

Any other changes you'd like to see?

I'm still working on the warning that someone posted while you were posting crap.

Also changed the edit post wait time, from 90 seconds to 20 sec.
QuoteNumber of seconds allowed for a post to be edited before logging the last edit date.

Do you want an indefinite time to edit posts, or a cut off tome allowed, so your opponent can't go back and change what they said?
Right now, it's set to "0", meaning you can edit it a year from now.

I've been getting this,"while you were posting,5 other posters posted, you may want to review your post". (or words to that effect)

Thanks for your efforts to correct this.

The nesting elimination should remedy that.

There is a setting you can go in and adjust yourself and turn that off in your Profile I did.

I can not see what or where I am typing 1/2 the time.

That happens to me, too.  It's usually on a reply when I use the "quote" dealie, but not always.  Is there a limited space available or what?  The blank part of the reply doesn't get visibly larger, but it always seems to accept what I type.  It's disconcerting.

Just the bugs that have to get worked out, I guess.  Thanks for asking!!!

At the top right hand page of every post I have made are three buttons:
1.quote
2.modify
3.remove

I have only noticed the first two on all the other posts. Why are my posts the only ones I see with the REMOVE button and a red checkmark?

Everyone is able to remove their own posts. Not other people's posts. Only admins can remove other people's posts.

Click on Profile and it will open your Profile page.  On that page you will see Profile Info, next to it is a Modify Profile highlight it and drop down to look and layout, click on look and layout then go in and adjust as need.  (don't forget to save your changes or you will have to go back and do all over.

5 minutes cutoff for posts, and also the number of times the post was edited. I think that's already in this, but haven't run any tests to confirm that until things settle down a bit.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to see it so you can post something and the page does NOT juimp to the forum's index-page, but instead returns to that thread. You wind up going through a LOT of keystrokes trying to answer more than one post in the thread, the way it is now.

One other issue has been bubbling here for about two weeks, where Mozilla Firefox has a problem with pasting text or links into a message-box. The problem does not manifest by using either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

Most of the time, any attempt to paste leads to an abbreviated drop-down menu which does not allow pasting OR copying. I've never seen this menu until this problem, and it is evidently not under discussion at the SimpleMachines forums for site administrators. Perhaps it should be, considering how many Mozilla users there are.

Taxed for one credits my use of older computer equipment using Windows XP (still in use by roughly half of all computer users, last I read). Maybe nobody updated a DLL file, or something. Maybe so. That's where SimpleMachines in their geekiness wisdom can write a fix for that one. A lot of people would presumably benefit, until they too buy Win7 or Win8 and leave a stable platform behind.

I also note that the image-size allotted for the CPF banner image has changed, now showing only the top part of the image in Mozilla. This is easy to fix, and should be.

2) when it opens click on Show Posts on the top left side.  It will show all your post.

Or you can click on other posters names and see all there post.

Having dealt with posters who edit posts to change the original point after a few responses I don't believe a post should be able to be edited after a response has been posted. If that is not possible due to the open end on a specific time I would say 30 minutes before a post is "locked".

I think the edit time limit is somewhere around 30 minutes.  I know I usually don't come back to a post fast enough to catch mistakes.

You should be able to change your timezone settings in your use profile somewhere.  It would be much easier than moving the equipment from the Pacific timezone to the East.  It's just too long of a long drive for me.

The letters box when sending messages should go away shortly...

x2 (saw the alternative for this, refresh the page) still would be convenient if after posting to to that specific thread you go to THAT thread

buddy list

ignore list (had it on another forum and used it for only one person but felt comfortable with it)

On the far right side of the index page you'll see recent osts in the event you missed one.

Ignore isn't something we do here, otherwise, half the forum wouldn't be talking.

Sometimes we let double posts slide, but only if they differ enough, otherwise we merge them, the first to post usually wins, unless someone took a lot of time and actually write something instead of simply slapping up a link.

Buddy list? We're all buddies here.

I was wondering...is there a way to make the page show 'just the members' in the 'who's online' function rather than always having to click on 'members'.   I know I know.  lol    I just get tired of doing it manually.

If they are in the list of "Who's online" They're members who are online at the moment.

Did I not understand what you were asking?

yes,  I see the list of posters online at bottom of page but when you click on # guests #users it shows you where everyone is.  That's how I find some topics sometimes.   and i'm nosey. I like to see what topics the posters are in.     BUT when I click on#Guests#Users it shows my name at top and then all guests...In upper right I have to use the drop down box to go from 'everyone' to 'members only'.  That's all.  I know...such a piddly request but I just wondered if there was a way I could set it to 'members only' all the time so I wouldn't have to continually change it.

Lately, I have used the report thread option so I can communicate with someone in order to request a thread to be moved (or pinned). I have gotten no response. What gives?

Sorry, I thought you would see it, so I ignored it. He wanted a thread Merged, not moved. You are the only one with the ability to merge.
If people want action, PM Walks, he is the Admin. Sending an arbitrary request to the forum doesn't get viewed by the right person every time, as in this request, so just contact Admin/Walks..

I wish you would leave the limit on editing posts to forever.   we're adults.  right?   I think we can be trusted.

NO! Not everyone who posts here shares our values of thrust and doing the right thing. If people have something they want edited, they can ask a mod.
Take your time, check over your post, make sure it's what you want, then post it.

It's possible that who ever received the message may have been inundated with messages at the time. You'd be amazed at the amount of requests mods get here.
Every morning I log on, there are at least 6 more people wanting to join, I screen all of them, this usually takes an hour, then I have to go through a half dozen PM's as well as attempt to read every new post on the forum and now we're cleaning up the other forum after 3 months of complaints.

If you don't get a response within a few hours, try again later on, so another mod can see it. or you can PM a mod directly..

Yeah, by the time I get the reported post, I've already addressed it or rectified the issue, so I never respond.

How about a secret section, that is only accessible by authorized members? Somewhere, were we can talk together, and not be seen by the public.

I am talking about a private group chat. Some forum software has that option.
