Whats hiding in your food?
« on: May 29, 2015, 07:59:00 AM »
Over the last year I have discovered many new things about my body.  A year ago I gave up all wheat/grain products and went gluten free. Although I don't think I am a full blown celiac I do know that I am definitely wheat sensitive.  I was immediately amazed at how much better I felt.  Next on the list was dairy - I slowly started giving up most dairy products back in March.  Some of my worst side affects of eating dairy subsided when I did not partake.  (Solar could tell you some good stories about these side effects.)

But this week I had a (old) new reaction to something.  My best friend wanted me to try something called Pho.  It is a Vietnamese broth soup loaded with meat, vegetables, and rice noodles - the big thing being the broth.  I ordered a small chicken bowl, which was still huge, and proceeded to dig in.  The broth was fantastic, flavorful and really good.  I had eaten about 1/4 of the broth when I noticed that it felt like someone was putting a vice grip on my temples.  Did I stop - no - I continued eating to about a third of the bowl gone.  At that moment the pins and needles in both arms and my chest hit hard and I felt like I was on fire.  I asked my friend if the air was working? do I looked flushed?   Yes the air was on and no I looked pale.  Then it hit me - I don't eat anything with MSG and hadn't for years because it gave me headaches.  She was positive they, as any good Asian restaurant, use MSG so she stopped the waiter who smiled and said of course.  I stopped eating, she freaked out...  (OMG I didn't know this was an issue!)   And we proceeded back to the office.  A few hours, a couple of aspirin, and tons of water and I finally started to feel ok.

I think the most interesting part is I am so careful with Solar's diet.  I read labels and ask questions everywhere (we have to really watch nitrates/nitrites) I go but actually forgot to consider myself.  I had "cleared" the soup for my gluten and dairy but thought nothing of the other things my now fairly clean diet had caused my body not to tolerate.  So my advice to myself is to now question everything.   What is in our foods that we need to question?   Toy

This also brings up your discovery of Fairlife milk and their filtering process, and how it has had a positive effect on your ability to digest dairy once again.
One other thing I noticed about their milk is, it has three to four times the length of expiration date, usually two months from date of purchase, though I have seen it spoil prior, but still lasts longer.

It's getting to the point where I'm seriously considering growing my own food and eating only it...can't trust what other companies put in their food in the name of profit anymore
