What? People cook with vegetable oil? When did this happen?
I use pure coconut oil. Nothing like it.
I use Extra Virgin Olive oil about 90% of the time, the other 10% I use Extra Virgin Olive oil with garlic.
Haven't tried coconut oil yet, we are an olive oil/ canola oil kinda house...

I'm doing okay on it. It suits my stomach. Don't use much for frying eggs and veggies.
I also put it on my hair as a conditioner.

So does my wife.
I'm not saying it's good or bad, my point is, many of these things get touted as a magic bullet.
What is really going on behind the scene, is large corporations spend money on studies designed to tout their products, then release them to the media, pay others to tout their findings as gospel and a new miracle product is born.
Like all things, moderation is the key, mix and enjoy.

I know what you mean. But it does tolerate higher cooking temps, without burning, and one doesn't need much, in a non stick pan. I only use the best, bio-virgin.

I have been using coconut oil for over a year now. Hair - conditioning, moisturizer - hands, feet, dry spots, homemade deodorant. I also use it in baking sometimes.

Do you apply it to wet hair or dry?
Usually to dry and never at the roots. I have long hair so about 4-5 inches. I will use it for deep conditioning on a weekend and have several versions I use for that.
I have a couple of books on it so if there is something specific your looking for let me know.

I have a friend who is really into it. Another friend who is a diabetic, swears by it for his health.
As I've said, I use it for frying, and on hair and on skin.
Olive oil I keep for salad dressing. And that isn't all it's cracked up to be.. I have an article on it somewhere, I'll try to find.

My best friend is Japanese, he buys a new razor once a year, he actually stood looking in the mirror one day debating on plucking the hair over shaving.
That was a long time ago when we were room mates.
Must be nice, I always ind up with razor burn.

Olive oil is great for low/moderate heat cooking. Extra Virgin is best used as a flavor enhancer. It's not for cooking. For a high smoke point use safflower oil.

Virgins and Drupes
"The only virgin in my town is the olive oil." - Alfredo Cotsamano
There was a time when I thought a virgin was a blind date, a girl or chap that, for whatever reason, didn't get out much. And then as a tween, I heard the expression "extra virgin," a hint that there might be more than one.
Now, any lingering illusions about Italian culinary or civic modesty have been crushed too. No, it has nothing to do with Berlusconi; although, the Italian prime minister's escapades may have set a new standard in Europe even for French husbands. My disillusionment came from Tom Mueller's exposé: Extra Virginity; the Sublime and Scandalous World of Olive Oil.
Bertolli, which controls eight percent of the world olive oil market, doesn't grow a single olive. They simply buy bulk oil from wherever, "process" it to an artificial level of taste consistency in Milan, and float it worldwide under an Italian flag. Bertolli was a subset of Unilever, the London based food monolith that brings you such delicacies as palm oil and margarine.

Good for them. The no "poo" method is very big on Pinterest. It is interesting how your mindset changes after a major medical issue. You start wondering what is in all this stuff we use. I gave up my facial stuff (Beauticontrol) and only use natural homemade stuff now. Toy
Let me know what you think of the no poo method. I may need to try it again.

I'll have to look at Pinterest.
Me; I just like to try new things.
I'd been using sulphate free shampoo. L'Oreal does one. I don't know of any others, but I'm sure they are out there.
Did you hear about that woman in England, who has not eaten a hot meal for 8 years. She eats only raw veggies and nuts, became a vegetarian, and took up yoga. Says it keeps her looking young.
I'll try and find the link.

Because I color my hair I use sulfate free shampoo too. I don't know if I could eat that way. Heck I make cups of hot tea just to hold the mug. Although I do love my salads.
That is why I like Pinterest, There is so much out there on going more natural. I love that kind of stuff. Whether it's making my own ketchup or my own vitamin C night serum.... Toy
