I just downloaded a book on my Kindle called "The Everything Soup, Stew, and Chili"   Along with giving an interesting history on soup (and how it became stew) it has many recipes.  So I thought I would ask members to share their favorite soup, stew or chili recipe.

I love Pasta Fagioli but will add chicken for Solar.  Will dig it up and share.  Solar makes a killer stew.  (which I like to simmer on the wood stove in winter)

Which answers the question about the history of stew.
It was because the wife let the soup simmer too long on the wood-stove. :))

Not you honey, ours starts out as stew, but I would imagine thats how it came about...

I would say so as potatoes are starch when they break down over a long cooking time.

Soup beans with ham hocks simmering on the WoodBurner sounds good to me. ;D

I like to put a spoon full of horse radish in my bowl for a little kick.

I'll have to wait a couple days though as the better half has just finished a big pot of chile.
If it was easy everyone would be do'in it.

Our weather has been very unsettled.  After that week of cold it has been quite mild again.  Just this week I started using the oven again and the woodstove has only been used to take the chill off the main room in the morning.....  Soon I can start making my soups.

As to the horseradish....

My wife eats horseradish like putting frosting on a cake.     lol

We do Crock pot soup now as we have no wood stove or fire place now.

I used to work with a guy like that, he would spread it on his sandwiches real thick.

With me a little goes a long way, but I do like the flavor of it.

When I can smell it across the room it is no  longer for flavor.   :))

Thats my only problem with it, "passing it on", eating it is great, butt like hot peppers, it too has too pass sometime.

Love it in potato salad, I need to tell ST I like it like that. :))
