Title: The Most Important Meal of the day...

Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day....what is your normal or favorite breakfast?   :) :)

This is my way of looking for new ideas.  ;) ;) ;)

Hmmm let see as a kid I remember having on the table on the farm every morning pancakes, eggs, bacon, home fries, steak, pork chop, toast (homemade bread),  gravy,  fresh milk, oatmeal, fresh cream, coffee, O J and about 5 fruits along with sweet rolls hot out of the oven.  Breakfast was between 4 and 5  A.M. 7 day a week and there was always coffee and sweet rolls until 9:00 A.M

Now coffee from 4 A.M. until 7 A.M. then all I get is oatmeal at my age  ;D  ;D

Ah the good old days... :) :) :)  But then you probably headed out to work after that.  You know - real physical labor... :) :) :)

LOL when in school we worked the first 2 hrs after breakfast before going to school. 
Summer time it was more work.  But if you were under 12 your day was done at 12:00 noon and you had Sat/Sunday off.   If you were older you had 2 days a week off.

What I really need is something different.  I am so tired of my standard egg, turkey, and cheese sandwich... :( :( :( :(

That is my standard Monday - Friday breakfast.... :)

if I have left over salad from dinner with no dressing on it, I eat that, or I have oatmeal or cereal and those wonderful yogurts with fruit the low fat kind... or peanut butter ona english muffin,,,then again apple butter is good to,lol.

Best for me is oatmeal cooked in apple cider/juice with blackstrap molasses, peanutbutter and raisins and a side dish of yogurt.  :)

Yea, breakfast is the best because it makes your brain wake up and be more active throughout the day. Then when you eat a small lunch and dinner the calories are burning off. However, the best way to eat is something small that is healthy every 3 to 4 hours because then as you eat you burn the calories and dont eat after 7pm if you go to bed around 10

Sure you weren't in heaven? that sounds awesome  :tounge: If I ever become a parent I would love to give my children that childhood  :laugh:

I normally have about 1/3 cup of granola with lowfat milk.  But occasionally I splurge with bacon or ham and eggs with multi grain toast.  Lots and lots of black coffee!!!!

I used to always make my own granola but have found that my local "Sprouts" grocery has great granola available in in the bulk food section.  Why bother with homemade??   :thumbsup:

Research has shown (I know, I HATE that term, but it applies here because leftist hate-politics has not dominated nutritional science...yet) that if you're going to eat a meal that's high in fat, the morning meal is probably the best time to do that.

The reason is that many of the crucial brain chemicals required for healthy mental functioning are synthesized from fat molecules. So it's probably better to eat a fat-laden egg, sausage, steak, carnitas, bacon, cheese, sour-cream, avacado serving with the morning meal than the later ones (so your brain can have all of the vital bio chemicals it needs all day).

Myself, I like steak-picado or carnitas (pork) with (lard-free) refried beans, eggs, jalapeno chilis (whole or diced) and maybe some potatoes or warm corn tortillas. Garnished with tomatoes, sour cream, green onions.

Another favorite is chicken/rice/avocado burrito (again with jalapeno chilis) or chorizo and egg burrito. You can tell I live in Mexifornia  :drool:

My housemate is on a strict weight-loss diet so she does egg white omelets with her favorite vegetables. She likes to combine pan-roasted zucchini squash, sweet peppers, marbleized onions and maybe some broccoli but you can experiment or add your own favorite combinations (mushrooms and spinach are another good combo)

If calories are not a major concern, I sometimes make a breakfast taco by taking left-over whole chicken carcass, removing the remaining meat from the bone, toss it into hot oil in a big fry-pan with seasoning (dried parsley, basil or Mexican seasoning) and chopped onion - sauté until brown, then stir in some eggs (with a little water added to the eggs so they don't dry out too much). This mixture can be used to fill corn tortillas with some pre-cooked hash brown potatoes (but don't overcook the potatoes so they have some texture). Place a generous amount of filling into the tortilla. Fold it over careful not to break the tortilla in half, and brown the taco on both sides so it's crunchy. It's a little tricky keeping the filling inside the taco when you flip (I sometimes slide it with a spatula up the side of the pan until it gently falls over onto the other side rather than picking it up and flipping it like a pancake) . The browning of the tortilla adds great crunchy texture to accent the tender savory filling.

Three tacos per person is a good meal, but for hungry hungry people maybe four or five! It's low sodium, high potassium, high-protein and fairly low fat so one may eat their fill and not get bloated!

This taco recipe may also be done with egg whites and very little oil in the sauté phase to lower the calories (just add a little more water to the eggs to keep mixture moist and tender). I like mild-to-medium salsa to serve. Some like to add cheese but to me that distracts more than enhances. Better to just serve a quesadilla on the side.
Wine, champagne or beer makes this even better( isn't that true of any meal? Yes)

Ah, another Newbie. Hail and well met, sieur!  :smile: Breakfast helps set the baseline for blood sugar level for the whole day, which can significantly impact metabolic function including neurological, hormonal, thyroid, etc. People who eat (a reasonable less-than-3000-calorie) breakfast consistently have lower risk of diabetes over time. Allowing blood sugar to drop too low, then overeating causes systemic instability and increases diabetes risk.
