I will be 76 in a month. I smoked part of my life and part I didn't. I had smoked the past 7-8 years. In Feb of 2012 I quit using Electronic Cigarettes. I don't think the e-cigarette brand TRIO is worth buying. I used CIGo2. It comes in 18mg, 12 mg and 8mg Caffeine Cartridges.
It took me about 5 months of daily E-cigarette use to stop using them. But I never had a read strong craving to smoke either after I started Cig02.

After that I gained unwanted weight. I joined the FREE VA weight loss program in February of 2013.

It is great.

You get a 200 page book and meet once a week for a telconference. There are about 15 cities participating.

The complete program is on the Internet - Free.
http://www.move.va.gov/

You have to pay attention to the material.

I have lost 22 pounds and intend to lose another 20 which will bring me to the weight I weighed when I was 35.

I use Dumbbells at home and try to walk 3 miles a day.

Besides the Dumbells the best Investment I have made is a Cheap One Hour windup timer.

When I get up in the morning I wind up the timer.
When the Bell rings I go exercise for about 10 minutes.

I use 19 pound (each) Dumbbells.
One of the things I do is Curls.
When I first started 5 reps was fine the first week.
The second week I went to 10
Now I do 15 reps.
I also do 5-6 other exercises with it, including squats and pushups.
Ten pushups has become easy. When I first started I was grunting a little and did 1/2 pushups.

The use of the timer is in my opinion the best investment I have made related to exercise.

Statistics I have read state it is bad to sit for hours without moving around. That's what I used to do. Ten hours at a time.
NO MORE.

Every hour I hear that BUZZZZZZZ and I'm out of my chair.
What that Timer Does is get you out of your chair every hour.
No putting it off. No it's too late to do it now. No - I forgot to exercise - Well I'll do it tomorrow.
Go Buy a timer.

Fad Diets don't work.
Over eating is psychological and a bad habit.

Before I was not full until my stomach felt full - Not anymore. I had forgotten what it was like to eat a small amount.

VA Recommended Practice
1. Keep a "Daily Log" of everything you eat by Oz, tspn etc:.
2. Drink a glass of water 20 minutes before a meal.
3, Put your utensil down when you eat - Let Go of it
4. Chew and Chew and rechew your food - so you eat slower.
5. Reduce your portion size after a month
6 Don't eat more than a tblspn of anything if you can
7. Eliminate sweets like cookies, candy, Reduce breads, pasta's and rice.
8. Try not to snack

What your trying to do is change your eating habits and customs to eat less and eat healthier.

Reduce or eliminate Red Meats,
Mackerel is healthier than Tuna

I do not eat Pasta or  Rice.
I entirely stopped eating Peanut Butter, Jelly, Cookies, Bread of any kind

SOMETHING to PONDER
Much is said about how many calories you lose with any particular exercise.
If your told you just lost 700 calories with your 1 1/2 hours of sweating you might say WOW

But think about how far ahead you would be if you had not eaten that Candy Bar or that Medium  bag of French Fries.

If you did eat that Candy Bar or Medium Bag of French Fries What did you accomplish?????????
If you add up the EXTRA CALORIES you Consumed you might have lost ground.

The exercise is very important. Not necessairly for the calories you burn but the rebuilding of your muscles, tendons and ligaments.
This renewed ability to physically accomplish things and feeling of added strength and agility helps immeasurable in builing your self esteem and outlook about your self. You start to feel younger and more agile. ( Pretty soon I will feel like a teen - HA)

I will able to say as my girlfriend says I feel like a Feather!
She runs five miles a day on the treadmill with a 10 incline.

It becomes extremely important in daily Disciplining yourself about your food intake.

THE MORE YOU PRACTICE IT - THE EASIER IT GETS

I smoked cigarettes for more than 30 years, increasing over that time to the point where I was burning 2-1/2 to 3 packs a day. Coughing every few seconds had become a part of my conversational style. Looking back at my life, I can admit that smoking was probably one of the reasons I preferred outside jobs -- building houses, building roads, etc. No restrictions out there!

I went to see my doctor back in 2007 because of pain and cramps in my chest and right shoulder. My doc ran an old-fashioned office and had his own (antique) X-ray machine and film developing equipment. After the picture was taken, I had to sit in a waiting area for about 15 minutes -- the longest 15 years of my life. I've been "scared" by trivial things every now and then, but that was the first time I was deeply, profoundly afraid for my life.

When the doc came and got me, and as I was walking back to the exam room to look at the X-ray, I felt like I was walking the Last Mile. But that big black blot wasn't there on the film. My chest looked normal. I wanted to turn flip-flops on the one hand, but on the other, I said, "Do it again. I think you're looking at the wrong film."

They did it again. The film was the same.

In the final analysis, the problem was likely stress. I'd been working highway construction jobs for 20 years, and was planning a staged retirement from a particular company's employment, but the bottom simply dropped out of that trade around then, when gas hit $4 the first time. In the end I was forced to take early union-funded retirement when the unemployment checks were about to run dry.

But there's a sunny side to the story. On October 22, 2007, I put away the cigarettes for good. Cold turkey. In the nearly six years since, my health has improved, the coughing is gone, my clothes and vehicle don't stink, and I don't even miss it.

Now, if I can just convince Mrs. Tbone that it can be done.....

I too quit cold turkey about 30 years ago.
I bought bags of corn nuts, they take for ever to eat, so that hand to mouth craving was satisfied.

:tounge: Eating CornNuts is kinda like eating rocks that taste really good. I always loved 'em, but quit for fear they'd damage my teeth.

In February of '81, I was smoking 4 to 5 packs a day plus a pipe. Went in for a physical, Doc said you don't smoke, do you? Sent me for an X-Ray; spot on my lungs. I want you to quit, says he; I said, Doc, I don't smoke. I want you to quit, says he. In two weeks if you haven't quit, we'll run a biopsy. Doc, I said, I don't smoke. Cold turkey quit is the only way to go. If you are motivated, you'll quit. Haven't had a cigarette in 32 1/2 years.

He said quit or die- I quit. If not, I would be dead. Smoking probably did cause my COPD, though.

Way back in the 80's I worked for a insurance company called Industrial Indemnity - Risk Management insurance.  We had the contract with the company that owned Cornnuts.  Lots of claims for broken teeth.

I pray, not wish because I have a God not a Genie.
