Title: Should doctors operate on intersex babies?
Post by: ReadyToShoot on August 11, 2015, 04:38:47 AM
QuoteM.C. was born with ambiguous genitalia, a rare condition that doctors addressed with surgery. Now, in a landmark lawsuit, M.C.'s parents are challenging the medical mainstream: Why does a surgeon decide what sex a child should be?

Unfortunately there are a lot of critically tolerant and liberally-ill people who would disagree with me. But I appeal to your common sense. A doctor is the only person who can make such decision. Cause he acts not because of his will, but because of the facts and different test results. Men and woman have different chromosome set. That's why it's not that hard to see what genes predominates!
I hope you agree!

Why even interfere in the first place? Let the child choose, there really in no rush for assignment.

Actually it's much safer to do a surgery when the baby is still a baby.
The body of the hermaphrodite will grow and develop. So it's really important to prevent the growth of submissive genes

Why, what's wrong with being a hermaphrodite?
I know one that's happily married.

If it were my child I would follow the chromosome pattern and do surgery ASAP.  It will keep the child from unnecessary humiliations from his peers and self consciousness.  Life is difficult enough without unnecessary stress upon a kid.

I'm of the opinion that chromosomes don't lie.

Even I think it's much safer to do a surgery when the baby is still a baby.If its treated at such small age it would be really safe and the babies in future will not face any problem.

What little I know of this issue suggests that earlier intervention might be better for the person because of the hormonal synergy triggered by testosterone level. Testosterone is not just a sexual hormone. Levels of testosterone determine a whole spectrum of metabolic, physiological and neurological growth dynamics which shape the mind and body of a person significantly for their entire life. Better to let the body follow one specific direction rather than two so that conflicts and/or impediments to optimal functionality are less likely to arise.

Since I've read nothing on this topic specifically, it would be necessary to study what experts in hormonal development and in sexual development (both physiological and psychological) have to say about the pertinent factors. If physiological ambisexuality conferred some sort of advantage on a mammal, it would have emerged in the natural environment, but it hasn't. The only animals which are ambisexual are the lower ones, such as insects, reptiles, amphibians, mollusks, etc. So it may be appropriate to view it more as a deformity or at best a gross deviation from normal rather than a matter of being an "alternative" condition.
