Title: Read This Before You Buy Anymore Orange Juice
Post by: Solar on August 24, 2011, 08:50:21 PM

It's well worth the read, and I won't be buying anymore orange juice, I'll squeeze my own.

I'm glad I read the whole article. Very rarely do I drink fruit juice but I do eat a lot of fresh fruit.

It was an eyeopener for me and I have a background in nutrition.
But this explains why a hungry man turkey dinner (Swansons TV dinner) still tastes the same as it did in the 60s when they actually gave you real sliced turkey and real cranberries.

Now it has a bologna type turkey meat and very little cranberries.

Point is, avoid processed foods altogether, God knows what they are putting in it.

Well, there goes O.J. for me. Thanks, Solar. >:D

But I'll be damned if I give up the occasional hot dog and burger.

I will never give up beef, though I do have a local butcher that grinds my super freakin lean.
Corn dogs are my little vice on occasion.

Heck, if we only ate stuff that MIGHT not be bad for us, we'd have pretty monotonous diets.  Even Jack LaLanne, who never ate anything processed, kicked the bucket before he was 100.  I know a lady in my church that made it to 100 and a half and ate fried chicken and bacon up until the day before she died.  Also drank store bought orange juice.  Better living through chemistry!  It's why life expectancy has increased.

That's not the point, though processed food/meat is not all that good for you, and a bit of a rip off in that it is usually injected with water to add weight.

But the point is, you aren't getting what you paid for, so either buy the cheapest brand, or make your own, Hell Koolaid and a multi vitamin has more nutrition than this crap does.

I do buy the cheapest stuff.  The store brand that comes in gallon jugs, made from concentrate.  Nutritious and delicious to me.  I think I'll go get a glass right now.

Try Donald Duck OJ, cheaper and better tasting.
Anyway, it used to be the cheapest...

Hmmmm I did not know this...
The part that really got me thinking was where he said that it takes "6-8 medium sized apples to make just 1 cup of apple juice".... wow He's right, that is way to much sugar... I wouldnt eat 8 apples in a week much less one day  :o

I remember years ago where Gerber got busted selling apple flavored sugar water as a baby drink.
I'll stick to Ocean Spray Cranberry juice. :o

I'll look for it.  But Kroger brand stuff is hard to beat for cheap.  Most of it is pretty good, too.  Good enough for me, anyway.

Well, if that's you in the picture, I'd cut back a little on the juice.  Just sayin'.

I used to have a juicer that I frequently employed, worked pretty good most of the time.
That is, until he got drunk while repairing the bed of my wagon and fell off, breaking his leg.....

Juicers always fall off the wagon. ;) ::)

Pretty funny.  I remember my first day with the Puking Buzzards in Viet Nam.  I showed up, green as a gourd, only to be met by a guy who bore a striking resemblance to Cpl. Klinger.  He said "Juicer or head?"  I said "Huh?"  He said "Are you a juicer or a head?"  I said, "Heck, I don't know.  What are they?"  He said "juicers get drunk, heads smoke dew."  I said "Well, if them's the only two choices, I reckon I'm a juicer."

I have a brother in law who raises a few cattle for slaughter each year. I go in on a half of a cow and fill up my freezer with the meat. Best tasting meat I ever eat. If it were possible then that would be the only meat I would ever eat not only for the taste but also because I know exactly what goes into it. Not just the processing but also steriods and antibiotics too.

Smart man, that is safer than you think.
When I was running cattle on a top notch ranch, a ranch that specialized in Herefords selling anywhere from 30K to 100K+.
But heres the dirty little secret all ranches do, when we had a cow or bull get sick, we would shoot it full of antibiotics and send to auction for slaughter.

That meat (top and bottom round in particular) gets sold in the grocery store.
If it isn't cooked long and hot enough, someone might just be ingesting 100 times the dose of an antibiotic.

I saw this documentary film Forks Over Knives, try to watch it. It will make you think twice before eating animal-based and processed foods.
