As we head into the New Year most folks start thinking about the changes they want to make for "a better year next year".  For a lot of people after a 4-8 week binge, justified by the holidays, they are ready to clean up their act.

This year, once again, I have big plans....  Let's see how I do.

What about you?  What do you do differently after the holidays?  Has something worked for you and you slid off the rails - trying to get back on track?

I don't make resolutions. I've lived long enough to have the wisdom to no longer make the same mistakes.

I wasn't really talking about the proverbial "New Years Resolution"  more of the idea that I need to change and evolve myself.  Personal growth each year should be a goal for everyone.

Well, let's see.
Since last Christmas:

I lost 100 lbs.
I reduced my blood pressure and quit 2 of my 3 BP meds.
I reversed my Lymphedema.
I got rid of COPD.
I got control of my Blood Sugar, without meds.
I lessened the arthritic pains in my legs and back.
I built my stamina, and my mobility.
I got healthier.

Can't really say I want to change much, right now.  Maybe I could take a few strokes off my Golf Game.

Have a great year, y'all.

Quit smoking 17 years ago, quit drinking 16 years ago, cut out soft drinks a couple of years ago, cut back on almost all sugar a year ago. Don't know if that makes you live longer, or does it just seem like it.

My Doctors say don't eat this don't eat that, don't do this do that.  They take all the fun out of life at my age.

I remember mu Mom telling me she was going to quit smoking in her mid-eighties. She had been smoking since she was thirteen. I just responded to her by saying, "Why, you won".

Some interesting thoughts on change...

Accepting the need to change is often the first step towards success.

Maybe money has been tight and you have been struggling financially. It's easy to get discouraged and have no desire to change. If maintaining healthy habits is difficult for you, then stepping back to reset your mind can seem daunting and unworthy of the effort. Maybe your change is that you need to slow your pace down a bit or on the opposite end of the spectrum, get a grip on the way you are using your time. Perhaps your change needs to come in the form of asking for help. I find it so interesting that the One who molds and shapes us into his image is also the One who helps us make the transitions. Paul provides a beautiful reminder of this fact:

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6 ESV

Also, asking God for guidance and courage to change is essential. We as humans rarely have the self discipline to make real changes in our lives.
