Recipe for Orange Slice Candy Cake
2 sticks butter
2 cups granulated white sugar
3-1/2 cups plain flour
1 tsps baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 lb. orange candy slices (chopped finely)
2 cups finely chopped pecans or english Walnuts
1 small can of angel Flake coconut
1/2 pound of chopped dates
1 tsps of grated orange peel
Cut up nuts,candy and dates and mix with flour. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time-beating well after each egg. Add the buttermilk and soda to the egg mixture. Add the nuts, candy and dates, flour to the egg mixture- a little at a time. mixture will be very hard to stir. Mix well and pour into a lined, greased and floured tube pan. Bake in a 275 deg oven for 2- 1/2 hrs.
Mix together 1 small can orange juice concentrate-thawed
1 1/2 cups of light brown sugar
2 tsps grated orange peel
Pour over hot cake that's still in the tube pan. Wait 10 min and turn out onto waxed paper and then upright onto cake plate.
Keep cake in frig until consumed.
