So I have one of those rotating compost bins and have been composting eggshells and veggie scraps for the last couple of months.  This weekend I decided to dump it into a raised bed I have.  Here is the problem.  I has some large clumps of "stuff" that I should have worked into the soil - but I didn't.

This morning as I was leaving I noticed that the couple of large (and disgusting) clumps had been pulled out of the bed onto the driveway.  I think our big dog was digging through it for the good parts....yuck.   :o :o
I pray, not wish because I have a God not a Genie.

Haha!!  :))

What type of composter do you have, ST?

As for the big dog, I hope you wont be smooching that dog any time soon.

Similar to this one.
It works fantastic, I just add a little septic treatment live bacteria, and in no time, you have rich black soil.

Is yours the type that you rotate manually to keep it stirred up?

I asked these questions because I have wanted to compost.

I am just not too thrilled about Solar's idea of adding Baby Ruths to the compost, ST.

Bet that compost really smells Spring time fresh, eh?

Oh no, never add excrement to the mix, that slows the process down.
Just kitchen scraps, vegetables, banana peels bits of paper, or some news paper, but not too much, then add the live bacteria I mentioned and spray lightly with water, just enough to keep it moist, never wet.

It sure makes your garbage can load a lot smaller.

Ukay  i had bought one of those compost bins that was freestanding last year.  I had been dumping everything in there but really had no way to turn it as they said.  nIn February I realized this was a problem.  That's when I bough the one that tumbles.  When we dumped the old one into the new one (using the tractor thank goodness.)  The bottom 12 inches was the most gorgeous soil I had ever seen.  Therefore I prefer the new one so I can see it happening.  Problem is now I think I need 2.... ;D

Solar... My bad! I scanned your first post and failed to read it thoroughly. You would think I came from the Detroit area and I'm in that 47%

Haha!  :))  I sure flubbed up when I failed to notice a couple of key words in your post.  :D

Sams and Costco both have them for around $99.00.  Considering I paid $40.00 for the one that didn't tumble I think it is a bargain.  And I would still recommend two as one got full and still needed time to break down.  I still had kitchens scraps that needed to be dumped.  Shop around and make sure it has good latches.  I think ours are 55 gallon ones.   :) :)

Thanks for the tips, ST. I began my aluminum can recycling some time ago and this is the other something I have had a desire to do.
