6.5 million pounds of beef recalled because of salmonella outbreak
POSTED 8:16 AM, OCTOBER 4, 2018, BY CNN WIRE

PHOENIX — Arizona-based meat producer JBS Tolleson is recalling 6,500,966 pounds of "various raw, non-intact beef products" because of an outbreak of salmonella, the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Thursday.

The recalled products might be contaminated with salmonella.

The recall was issued after health officials identified JBS as the common supplier of raw ground beef products found to be the "probable source" of reported salmonella illnesses.

Fifty-seven cases of salmonella illness linked to this outbreak were reported in 16 states between Aug. 5 and Sept. 6.

Thankfully, I haven't purchased beef from any of the companies listed in the article.

Me either. We buy local, usually enough for the year. This year we're buying a half a beef from a local grower that pampers their cattle, never see a cattle car, or receive injections.
I never buy Costco or any of the major producers/slaughter yards, the meat really isn't that good, though we do buy it for our animals, they can handle it better than humans.

We use to be able to buy meat like you do, but they went out of business a few years ago. There are a few local butcher shops we frequent. Buying beef any more is like playing Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun.

Couldn't agree more! We had trouble finding good butchers, even when they claimed the meat to be a certain quality, they lied.
We have a grocery chain called Raley's that sells only local organic, but it's $7.00 bucks a lb.
That's why we started searching for a ranch and found one that butchers twice a year, so we have an order in for the spring.
