I bought that Yonanas "ice cream" maker yesterday and used it for the first time today. This is a great tool if you like ice cream but are trying to live healthy. Until now, I've been making thick fruit smoothies with my Ninja using frozen bananas, frozen strawberries, a scoop of protein powder and a little milk. If you don't add much milk you can get near soft serve ice cream. With this "ice cream" maker (Yonanas), you can get full ice cream texture but ZERO fat and it tastes GREAT!  You just push thru frozen fruit (and even peanut butter and chocolate) and it "poops" ice cream!

Just remember over-ripe bananas are super sweet.  If your diabetic use green banana.   Green banana do not have the sugar content that ripe ones have.  Green banana are extremely tart, so I use then just as they start turning yellow.

I had a coupon for one of these during the holidays.  I didn't have any extra for one, but I think it's a pretty decent concept, especially when you have kids who aleays want dessert, and I don't want them to have so much processed sugars.  Wonder if you could replace the milk with Greek yogurt for the added probiotic/protein benefit, would it be liquid enough?

You can alway add a tad bit of water if need.  A good cook always adjust as needed.   The thing about recipe, there something to go by.  The taste, looks and end product is up to the cook.

Yonanas doesn't use milk. Just pure healthy fruit. I like bananas and strawberries. I'm going to try mango and pineapple this week. I did have "ice cream" for breakfast this morning--made with 2 frozen bananas and a cup of frozen strawberries. I still can't believe that it tastes just like ice cream! It's great for kids, or anyone who wants to eliminate the fat.

I make protein smoothies in my Ninja or Magic Bullet. I take the Magic Bullet to work with me and make a protein shake for work. It keeps me satisfied until I get home.

My whole family on my fathers side is type 2 diabetic, so I tend to lose weight and just feel better on a low processed carb, high protein diet.  I have avoided buying powdered protein because of the expense, but you think it's worth it?

I buy it at Walmart (Body Fortress brand Whey Protein) for about $15.  It lasts me about a month if I use an average of 1 scoop. That's $.50 a day.  I like routine. One of the things I take to work everyday are brownies that I've added 2 scoops of protein powder to the mix and I replace the oil with applesauce to eliminate all that excess fat.  I take 4 brownies with me everyday and eat 2 a couple hours before lunch, and I have the other two around 3pm.  It keeps me satisfied.

I eat very little meat, so I get most of my protein from dairy and legumes and protein powder.

BTW, bananas are great for your condition. They digest slowly and they have a unique blend of sugars that are much better than refined sugars or most other fruits.

If you ever want to change up your recipe, you can replace half the flour with canned beans, mashed, in the same volume (cup of flour would be 1 cup beans), as you said, beans up the protein value.  I did not notice a change in flavor, but they are more moist/cakey.

Same here Yawn, it's an excellent product as well as an excellent source of protein.
Toy is intrigued ever since I showed her your thread, now she wants one.

Can you freeze milk and run it through the machine? ST needs her calcium as well.

They tell you not to run ice cubes thru the machine because it's too hard, so I doubt frozen milk would work either. Frozen fruit is pretty soft.
