I disagree, people want normalcy and if they don't get it at your restaurant, they'll find one that is normal!

Chefs: Stabilize wages, cut out tips

As reopening restaurants — regardless of their size or reputation — prepare diners for a vastly different experience thanks to coronavirus-related restrictions, industry figures are calling for a radical rethink of what's rapidly becoming an unsustainable business model. Eateries are already grappling with abbreviated menus that are more expensive, new safety protocols (partitions, masks), and emptier dining rooms. Chefs and restaurant owners argue it's time to reevaluate and fix the industry's traditional economic breakdown. Among their suggestions: eliminating tipping and pushing for more worker protections.

The future of dining looks far from festive: Restaurants are girding for "distance eating," with shorter menus, pricier food, less service, and servers wearing masks and surgical gloves.

A lot of restaurants will go out of business, but among those that are actually able to reopen, there'll be lots of changes:

* Tables and booths will be separated by everything from plexiglass shields to clear shower curtains.

* Diners may have to wait in their cars or on the sidewalk for a text saying their table is ready.

* People may have to order their whole meal — from appetizers through dessert — all at once, to minimize encounters with the staff.

* Paper tablecloths will replace fabric ones, condiments won't be left on the table, and disposable plates and glasses may reign supreme.

From the comments following, that seems to be the consensus.

THIS may be another one of those examples of the Law of Unintended Consequences.

You want to change my normal...take this opportunity to implement your liberal agenda....then i'm not going to cooperate.

That means i'm gonna be eating at home..and that means more time at the dinner table influencing my kids on the topic of tyrannical liberalism.

Oh i'm not gonna cause any problems....except a lot of passive aggressiveness.   I"m not going to obey your rules.  Those arrows...i'm going in the opposite direction.   I can only buy a limit of peroxide or alcohol or paper products.  No  I'm going over the limit and i'll lay odds your cashier is not even going to notice.

You want business and tax dollars...you're not going to be getting it from me or a lot of other folks like me.

But the main thing is...i'm gonna make you pay for your tyrannical behavior.   I'm going to work like hell to get conservatives elected....hear that repugs....this means you too.   TRUMP supporting conservatives will get my vote and millions like me will do the same.

If I eat at a sit-down restaurant, I don't want disposable dishware. You don't have steak with a paper plate or plastic silverware. You don't have a cocktail in a Dixie cup. Don't get me started on paper tablecloths.
With all these lawyers with cameras on the street i'm shocked we have so much crime in the world.

There is constitutional law and there is law and order. This challenge to law and order is always the start to loosing our constitutional rights.

Frauditors are a waste of life.

I ate at a restaurant that gave us plastic tableware.  I never went back.

I guess I can live without restaurants.  Eating at home or carry out is OK by me.  Too bad we're letting this stupid virus run our lives.  I say open up the economy full throttle with zero Covid protections.  Let 'er rip!  Some will die.  So what?   We're all gonna die some day.  Let's live life and stop this cowardly crap!

Those prices are outrageous. No wonder folks are leaving.

Dim Min Wage law caused this problem, food quality suffers due to less employees.
It's weird, you can buy a McD meal where I live and it's standard, then buy the same one in the Bay Area, and it won't be hot, it may have been under warming lights for well over an hour.
Min wage laws are job killers.

For some reason I felt the minimum wage was involved.
