Two parts of these articles really stood out to me.

Really?

REALLY?

I guess Walmart is unique in this aspect.................

"Closing stores is never an easy decision, but it is necessary to keep the company strong and positioned for the future," said Doug McMillon, Walmart's CEO.

Yet Walmart says it will continue with its plans to open 300 new stores around the world later this year and 2017, including up to 60 new U.S. Supercenters and 10 new Sam's Club stores

They are closing under performing stores and opening new ones in better markets. I am SHOCKED...... SHOCKED I SAY.

This is just another example of the media pandering to the left while punishing business for making smart decisions.

Putting a WallyWorld every 10 miles apart? That close? I have to drive 30 to the nearest one OTHER than the substandard, demoralized, LOCAL outlet this company decided to keep open.

This closure means more adults will be competing with college kids for the fast-food counter jobs (and with better work records more likely to get that job). I've seen this so many times I can't count them. Adults work any shift. College kids need scheduling. Guess who gets the nod?

It also means straining local welfare programs after state/federal unemployment payouts finally run out. Until we can get Obama's mob out of power and reverse this disastrous retail economy his asinine governance has provoked, we're in for extended unemployment which unfortunately will probably run out before we get the ship-of-state America bailed out, tipped back up from its capsized condition, and restored to full steam ahead.

We won't get it from Hillary Clinton, a 6-year Walmart board of directors member.

I reviewed the list of closing stores in several states I am familiar with. What surprises me is that Walmart even placed stores in some of these locations. Most of the closures in the US are Walmart Express stores which was concept introduced in 2011. Clearly they have under performed. It proves even a Walmart can't be all things to all people. They deal in BIG and obviously that business model did not work for smaller stores. As for the hand wringing left complaining about the workers losing their jobs. Many of those folks would not even have a job if Walmart had not come in. As someone pointed out, this venture turned out to be a bad business decision. That is life, and an expensive one for Walmart.

This will be better for the economy, as more mom-and-pop competition can bloom.

I would think an adult with a GOOD work record could do better than Wal-Mart or fast food. It has been my experience that most adults make a "career" out of these jobs because welfare is supplementing their check.

Which brings me to.............

Unemployment running out and welfare being cut might have a positive effect. It might motivate some of these people to do something with their life.

Maybe I have a different job environment in Tulsa but I have NEVER been unable to find a job. I have heard others in my area claim they can't find a job then look in the paper and see 4 pages of them.

I am starting to think I can't find a job is code for I don't WANT a job.

Am I missing something?

You aren't seeing the retirees there, are you, youngster? Same for Social Security. If Social Security runs out we have more than an unemployment problem.

Flexible work schedules win out every time over college pukes thinking they dictate the scheduling. And anybody who hires in somewhere and expects to RETIRE from there is in for a 21st Century readjustment. Part time is the ONLY time if the big-box outfits can get away with it. That and no more pensions.

Yes. Location, location, location. It's Obama's economy, the Democrats screwed America, we are poor because of liberals, and we are SCREWED if we elect a RINO to replace the Muslim Maggot.

American Airlines hired someone in their 60's 2 days before they hired me for the same job. The job was full time with benefits and a pension.

I apologize if this offends you but if you make a career from a minimum wage paying job you have made some bad life choices.

Why should a company invest in YOU if YOU won't invest in YOU?

I do not disagree with your statement. I believe I was saying the same thing.

United Airlines is not a "big box store." It pays higher wages than Wally World, and you DO stand a better chance at making a career. At age 60, just how long are we talking here?

Where? American Airlines? Wal-Mart? The answer is yes. Yes I am.

In my mind you were not saying the same thing at all. I guess you will have to connect the dots for me because I am not getting it.

I worked for American Airlines.

Wal-Mart distribution facilities pay well. Taking a job as a cashier with no ambition to move up does not.

He worked there about 9 or 10 years. Unfortunately he had an injury to his knee (I heard the pop from coach all the way in first class) and had to retire out.
