Walmart closing 269 stores worldwide, impacting 10,000 American employees

I do not get so worked up about this or that retail outlet. I can get a pair of socks at Walmart, Target, Sears, Penneys, or some mom and pop. The real problem is that we have exported so many of our jobs that actually MAKE something (including the aforementioned pair of socks). And of course, many Americans who HAVE invested in themselves are still losing jobs to the H-1b visa crowd.

How much do you pay for those socks?

I would think an adult with a GOOD work record could do better than Wal-Mart or fast food. It has been my experience that most adults make a "career" out of these jobs because welfare is supplementing their check.

Which brings me to.............
Unemployment running out and welfare being cut might have a positive effect. It might motivate some of these people to do something with their life.

Maybe I have a different job environment in Tulsa but I have NEVER been unable to find a job. I have heard others in my area claim they can't find a job then look in the paper and see 4 pages of them.

I am starting to think I can't find a job is code for I don't WANT a job.

Am I missing something?

My opinion.   Question their claim.  Ask them to explain themselves further and why they can't find a job even though there are four pages of jobs in the newspaper.

I do have a question.  Is there an online publication for the paper and if yes will you link me please?

My opinion. People today have been conditioned to expect reward for very little effort (everyone is special and everyone gets a trophy). They never invested in themselves to develop a skill set so they do not qualify for much. What they do qualify for they consider beneath them. It is a combination of laziness, unrealistic expectations, and ego.

My cousin took a job at a welding shop. He did "grunt work" which consisted mostly of fetching, sweeping, and grinding metal. He stayed extra hours on his own time every day to learn to weld. For the companies part they provided the scrap, supplies, use of equipment, and access to an experienced welder for instruction and guidance. He pulls 6 figures today.

Now let's take your typical unemployed libtard socialist of today with no job skills and no career prospects. If you told them they could take a job in your weld shop doing "grunt work" (their investment) and you would bear the cost of them developing a marketable skill (the employers investment) how many do you think would take you up on it?

These are the same people that "can't find a job". They can't find one because they are not looking for one.

Something else to consider, not all companies post openings in the local paper. My company does not for instance. Though they do post on internet job boards and on their website.

There is another career that very few people ever think it is what they will be. It is called a professional sales person and there are always good jobs for them. However, one must start at the bottom and build their skills and that takes time and dedication. Most people today are not willing to make that commitment.

I have something to share with you.

I used to work for American Airlines. When they shut my shop down I chose to quit the company. I did not want to be one of those lifers that had lived in 5 different states "chasing the job".

As I pondered what the future may bring I realized I made a pretty good living at American Airlines and what I did to earn that living was not marketable. I knew that with my current skill set and education I would have difficulty matching my current standard of living.

I said that to say this.

When I was exploring options I found a nonprofit program that offered free training to no/low income people for a variety of occupations (I was about to be no income). I considered enrolling in their CNC program. This program provides an income while going to school and provides job placement after graduation. Many of my coworkers were facing the same hard choices as me. I told many of them about the program in an attempt to help them through a hard time.

Only one of them showed any interest. The rest were content to sit on their rear ends and run their unemployment out. They actually told me they were PLANNING to exhaust their unemployment.

I chose to go to school for computer networking. Class ended Friday and Monday I started a job at HP (which I left for a better paying job ).

My ex coworkers, who had not done any marketable job duties in over 10 years, rather sit at home on unemployment than get paid to go to school. To me that is the definition of stupid, lazy and irresponsible.

I am sure these same people told others they "can't find a job" while they were purposefully exhausting their unemployment.

Sorry, and with utmost respect this is wrong.  You are criticizing people that worked.  I know that Walmart is a huge employer in my state.  They pay health benefits.  They are a job.  Those people did go out and find a job.  And I think they make close to what I make.  They have benefits paid by company.  It was a good job in todays market.  And unless they are single working mothers I doubt they collect any additional social benefits.  Only illegals who work under the table get those.

And how dishonest of you.  You know these are the people who are driving the Bernie Sanders and Trump love fest.  Because people really don't care about the workers.

Four pages of job openings.  One page full of scams.  One page of part time work.  Others stuffing envelopes from home.  Or specific to job training that those workers probably don't have.

Here's the classified ads for Tulsa.  I found work from home scams and a sales associate that requires a degree.

Should have but they were after thoughts.  This thread is exactly why people are running to Sanders and Trump.  Just saying.  Its the disregard for the welfare of fellow Americans and the criticism of who they are.  We are all Americans who deserve respect.  And when people who are working get laid off it isn't a opportunity for the more educated or fortunate to gloat.
