Trump could go after this $1.5 trillion.

New think-tank research shows more than 1 million student loan borrowers each year go into default and nearly 40 percent of borrowers are expected to default on their student loans by 2023.

Outstanding education debt in the U.S. has tripled over the last decade and now exceeds $1.5 trillion, posing a greater burden to Americans than auto or credit card debt, CNBC reported.

Let the private sector handle student loans. I guarantee defaults will go down.

The govt needs to bundle/sell these debts in packages to private collectors..
Sure, we as taxpayers take a loss, but it would get the govt out of supporting Marxist indoctrination centers pushing worthless liberal arts degrees..

They defaulted on student loans because they didn't learn anything so it kinda evens out.

I must remember that if I take out a loan.

What I learned over the years is don't take out a loan.

The only thing I can see taking loan out is foe a house.  Then it should be paid off in 10 years.  No loans for cars pay cash, drive used cars until you can pay cash for a new one.  The new car was for the wife, I liked my used cars for my use.  As I could work on them myself.

When I was in college in the early 60's "college loan" was not in our vocabulary. It seems if you could not afford college, you did not go.

It was the same way in the 40's and 50's.  Some kids work their way through college most did not.

Yep, that's how I remember it too, and why I knew college was no in my future, so I planned accordingly. I educated myself.

When did it go from "no money/no college" to "no money/no problem"?

I saw it happening in the mid 70's. It dawned on me that "old fashioned parenting" became optional. At that point I realized I could not fall into that trap with two small ones at the time.

Possum

Federal government took over student loans with obama. I am guessing the plan was for hillary to forgive those loans and have dim voters for life.
