The Baltic States, being members of the European Union, behave as its «obedient children» and do their best to follow the general political line of the organization that is determined by such strong European powers as Germany, France and UK. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia support all EU political decisions even without taking into account their own interests.
The Russian government banned in August 2014 imports of different food and agricultural products from the European Union as a countermeasure to sanctions introduced by the EU and several other countries under the US pressure after Russia's actions in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. These sanctions involve an embargo on several agricultural and food products, including meat, dairy products, fruit and vegetables.
That time no one in the EU took into consideration the Baltic States' economic dependence on the agricultural trade with Russia and possible impact these sanctions would have on individual EU countries.
It should be said, that most EU countries get off relatively lightly, including the UK, but the Baltic States are hit hard. Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania may be considered to be quite vulnerable due to their large exports to Russia. Exports to Russia have exceeded 10% of GDP in Lithuania since 2010 while exports from Latvia and Estonia to Russia have been somewhat lower, but still higher than those from most other EU countries.
So, it is no doubt, that the economic situation in all Baltic States depends a lot on ties with Russian Federation. In this particular case (concerning anti-Russian sanctions) the stronger these measures are the weaker the Baltic States will become.
Sorry to say, the EU didn't manage to become a structure with common views, goals and equal opportunities and rights. And unlikely it will become such an ideal union in the near future.
The Baltic States have failed to obtain compensation from the European Commission for their loses. Instead they were strongly recommended to diversify foreign markets and use existing European programs (business advice, loans, etc.). In other words, they have been left face to face with their troubles caused by Russian sanctions.
Evidently, the Baltic States mean little in the EU hierarchy and they will undoubtedly play further a role of the victim of political ambitions of the others. Probably they will again and again be offered as a sacrifice for the sake of stronger members. It is absolutely clear, that the general economic impact of Russian counter-sanctions and possible effects on GDP of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have not been quantified beforehand. Nobody cares; even the Baltic States' governments do not care. And now we see what we see – deterioration of economic situation in order to be considered as "good" EU members.

If the Baltic states don't care, why should we or the EU give a damn?

Only in this case you can find truth. I am interested in the issures of European security and the situation in the Baltic States and Poland.
