You wanted higher min wages, and what did you get libs?   FIRED!!!!!

Last year, the kiosks were coming. It didn't take them long to get here.

Wendy's plans to install self-ordering kiosks in 1,000 of its stores — about 16 percent of its locations — by the end of the year.

The Dublin-based burger giant started offering kiosks last year, and demand for the technology has been high from both customers and franchise owners.

"There is a huge amount of pull from (franchisees) in order to get them," David Trimm, Wendy's chief information officer, said last week during the company's investors' day.

"With the demand we are seeing ... we can absolutely see our way to having 1,000 or more restaurants live with kiosks by the end of the year."

Trimm said the kiosks accomplish two purposes: They give younger customers an ordering experience that they prefer, and they reduce labor costs.

A typical store would get three kiosks for about $15,000. Trimm estimated the payback on those machines would be less than two years, thanks to labor savings and increased sales. Customers still could order at the counter.

Kiosks are where the industry is headed, but Wendy's is ahead of the curve, said Darren Tristano, vice president with Technomic, a food-service research and consulting firm.

"They are looking to improve their automation and their labor costs, and this is a good way to do it," he said. "They are also trying to enhance the customer experience. Younger customers prefer to use a kiosk."

Franchisees won't be required to install them.

Demand for the technology is high, and higher-volume stores will get priority, said Heidi Schauer, Wendy's spokeswoman.

Among the 1,000 kiosks will be close to 100 at company-owned stores. There already are kiosks in some central Ohio locations where Wendy's has tested the technology.

Another benefit is the hard to quantify savings that comes from management not having to deal personnel issues.

Oh God isn't that the truth?
I fired my entire crew one day when the entire group got caught up in the drama of a bipolar employee and started making demands on how I ran my business. Their ultimatum? Do as we demand, or we walk. I said: "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out."
Not one of them thought I'd fire them, they actually thought they were valuable.

Personally, I'd prefer, as a customer, placing an order with a machine, it's one less link in the chain of human error.

If a 'job' can be replaced by technology it will! The business is less expensive to operate and the Bots are arguably more reliable than people! :)

Everybody is moving in this direction (as they should). It makes good business sense - Raising the minimum wage isn't expediting the process.

Geee... I wonder what the burgers will taste like without the stray hair, sweat & spit for seasoning... the thing sliding off the charred bun?

What comes out the drivethru is some compressed, dripping grease, barely warm thing I'd never ever mistake for those burgers on the billboards!  And those "hollow fries" - you know, if you bite off the ends, it can be filled with cheese-wiz.

Bugger King got my attention with NY Cheese Cake (hmmmmm!), till I got one half mashed - it would have been completely mashed, but it was still partially -frozen-.

And those fountain sodas - has a moldy after-taste, guess I better dump it and stick with bottled or cans...'

We use to joke about MSG in Chinese Restaurants, now that seems to be the safest food!

Yeah, I'll miss that 20-something, leaning through the drive-thru with those vacant-looking, bloodshot eyes, barely able to string together a coherent sentence in their first language (Dude-English), Dredlocks hanging in the bag...
All animals are created equal; Some just take longer to cook.   Survival is keeping an eye on those around you...
