Minimum Wage Increases Feel Good But Do Bad

BRIAN JOONDEPH

excerpt
QuoteThe inconvenient truth about minimum wage laws is that despite their political popularity on a feel-good level, similar to most liberal ideas, they don't have any significant impact on poverty or standard-of-living, but instead reduce employment and job opportunities. Rather then helping family breadwinners, few of whom actually earn minimum wage, they hurt entry-level employees, typically low skilled, where the minimum wage is entire appropriate for someone entering the work force.

Instead the higher minimum wage will benefit suburban teens and students, most of whose families are well above the poverty line. Employers respond to their increased labor cost as they would any other cost. Reduce it. Meaning elimination of entry-level jobs or fewer hours available for those who are fortunate enough to keep their jobs. Fewer jobs translates to fewer opportunities to enter the labor force, gain experience, and climb the ladder to higher wages. But the politicians and progressives can pat themselves on the back for their compassion, while ignoring the destruction left in their wake.

The left is famous for emotional legislation, just look at the War of Poverty. It sounds good, but has done nothing to eliminate poverty. There is no cure for stupid!

The percentage of people getting minimum wage is very small, and they don't stay at minimum wage.  The left loves to get all worked up over non issues.  What they should care about is the lack of quality jobs and all the people of working age who aren't working.
The danger to America is not Barack Obama but the citizens capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.

Liberals do not give a twit about quality jobs and/or the number of folks who are not working. They just know raising the minimum wage appeals to the LIV's.

A young girl I knew who was on her own was working as a waitress for a chain restaurant.  Within six months, she was made shift manager, and the chain offered to send her to management classes for further advancement in their organization.  There are opportunities out there if you just show up and work hard and are dependable.

Another girl I know who didn't finish high school, was also a waitress, and also went to a barber school.  She got a job working for an elderly shop owner.  After a couple of years, he offered her to buy his shop, which she did, was quite successful and paid it off in two years.  She's now semi-retired and has bought herself a ranch.

The kind of stories democrats want no part of. I will always remember what my first boss told. He said, "Work hard and keep your nose clean. The competition has a tendency to eliminate themselves." He was so correct.

We can expect to see the Marxists broach this subject in the last month of the election.
Granted, it will be left up to us, the electorate to educate the idiots, and how they are being used as pawns for commies, but none the less, the left will still and try and use it like a weapon.

Like clockwork, they always bring it up before an election, and in the same manner, the GOP will sucker for it, instead of pointing out the hypocrisy, they'll swallow the hook and try and defend themselves.
When will these idiot rino quit falling for this crap?.

Liberal/democrat state and local governments are inadvertently helping the GOP with this. By passing all these $15 per hour requirements in their states and cities we will have actual results that prove there are unintended consequences with a $15 minimum wage. The question is will the GOP take advantage of this softball?

I agree, and no, the rino will play the middle, probably claiming it's a States Rights issue, and tossing the ball back.
Cruz or Carly may capitalize on it, but the rest will run like cowards.

It's a two level process of education.

First is getting people to even acknowledge there are these "unintended consequences" which stem from feel good/do bad legislation. And yes, the recent idiocy of increasing minimum wage to $15/hr will result in stacks of facts. (Of course, since when do humanist progressives pay attention to FACTS?)

The second is acknowledging the consequences are anything but "unintended". The powers behind these moves are after but one thing: more government power.  Every time one of their bogus feel good programs puts another person on permanent dole status, it is a net victory for them. The more people reduced to dependency on government handouts, the more people are easily coerced into supporting even more programs that put them on the dole, because if they don't vote democrat, those evil poor-hating republicans will take away all their freebies.

Yep, it's all planned, and equally unsustainable and they're more than aware of it.

I say we join them in their efforts and demand $100.0 per hour and let them explain why that's unsustainable, and $15.0 is not.

The Liberals are never willing to acknowledge the fact that ALL costs are always passed on to the consumer .... resulting in inflation.

There is no such thing as "corporate" taxes per se.  They always filter down those taxes to the consumer.  Americans need to wise up.

ALL taxes are bad.  Some (very little) are necessary to the functioning of a Constitutional government.

I know, I always laugh at idiot libs that repeat the Dim talking points about "We need to close corporate loopholes".
In other words, they are advocating those taxes be passed on to their dumb asses.

You're right, if people would wise up, they wouldn't fall for the 1% BS.

Taxes has always been a trickle down effect.  The consumer(s) will always ends up paying all the tax added on.   Or they will not stay in business very long.
