I have been using Quicken for about 20 years now.  Starting the end of last month it started show my checking account in the read sometimes.  I know I have money in the bank.  Today I have over 3000$ in checking and it was showing me in the read.  They changed something and if your don't clear the deposits when you put them in, the deposits will keep dropping to the bottom and show you in the red.   Before it always put them in by date, now I must clear them and they are posted by date.

I just use a simple spreadsheet.   Not sure if I'm missing much, but the pages are linked back to a P/L page, pretty straight forward.

One page for each sales event, a page for consumables, for capitol expenses - all detailed, but only the bottom line stuff goes to the P/L summary statement.

I use XL for business spreadsheets.  But I have not had to do one in 14 years as I am retired from that type of work.   I find Quicken is great for my Checking and Saving accounts, as it let's me look back over 20+ years if needed.

Like Hoofer, I quit using Quicken and created excel spreadsheets that suit my desires. It is so simple to set up a register and easy to balance my checking account. I also developed spreadsheets for deductions which make my taxes so much simpler for me and my CPA.

Walks - I too had used Quicken in the past but a couple of years ago I switched to Dave Ramsey's Every Dollar program.   This is a budgeting and tracking program created by Dave Ramsey.  You can use the free version and data enter everything yourself or for $99 per year can have it link to your bank account.  This is the second year I have been using the premium version and I love it.  Once you have done the initial set up of your budget you just drag and drop the bank information into the categories you have set up.   You can make adjustments month to month so as things change you can change it for that month.  You can view by what you have budgeted, what you have spent, or how much is remaining.  It helps me see where I am overspending and need to make an adjustment in my budget or maybe my spending habits.

Check out the free program to see what it is like, you might find it easier to use.

I don't have a budget as I don't owe anyone money.
I have 4 monthly bills.
Power
Phone
2 Rx Plans

What we don't spend I put into our saving account.  1 to 2 thousand a mouth, as I pay cash for everything.  The monthly bills are auto-pay.

At our age the government makes us take out some money every year from our investments or they will penalize us.  :cursing:

Solars Toy

Hey Walks - I understand not having a lot of bills as Solar and I don't really have any either.  This program allows me to budget my food, pet care, gifts, and more.  (Toy's mad money)   It helps me keep an eye on all of that.
