Title: Liberals Show Their Ignorance Again
Post by: supsalemgr on August 25, 2018, 04:00:24 AM
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/23/opinion/ban-stock-buybacks.html

Once again the left has proven they have no clue about financial situations. Just read the first sentence of the piece. I ask what is the purpose of a corporation? It is unabashedly to enhance shareholder value. Keep in mind, shareholders are NOT just stockholders. Employees, vendors and customers are shareholders as well as they also benefit from the success of the company even if they do not own stock. Liberals think funds from a stock buyback go into a black hole. NO, those funds are either spent or reinvested. Both of these results are good for the economy. I just shake my head when I hear liberals try to talk about the economy. Remember, Nancy Pelosi said food stamps wer good for the economy

QuoteSince the 1980s, corporate boards in the United States have embraced as dogma the position that companies should be run primarily for the benefit of their shareholders. The stranglehold of this doctrine of "shareholder-value maximization" over corporate decision making has been a leading cause of inequitable incomes, unstable employment, and sagging productivity.

I could only read the first paragraph, then i had to go throw up. For the party of science the left sure is ignorant of basic economics.

You highlighted this in your response. ""shareholder-value maximization" over corporate decision making has been a leading cause of inequitable incomes, unstable employment, and sagging productivity."

Just ponder that for a moment. Shareholder value maximization IS corporate decision making isn't it?

Right. Maximizing the value for shareholders (ie, turning a profit) is what a corps are supposed to do (not be some kinda social charity). But the paragraph trys to say that the basic funtion of corporations somehow is the cause of income inequality, high unemployment, and general inefficiency. They are trying to say that capitalism makes for a bad economy. Nothing could be further from the truth, yet there they are spouting it like its gospel science.

Oh wait a sec, i see your point. They are saying that maximizing shareholder value is SEPERATE from coporate decision making.  Wtf? So what the hell is coprorate desicion making supposed to be?
Well they are probably thinking about leftist corps like gaggle anad faceplant, whos coporate decisions are to right social wrongs, ie further the leftist cause.

Any question liberal thought over government intervention into the economy is a disaster?

The only thing liberals can do is keep stuffing money down a rat hole.  All it does is make the rat hole bigger.
