You get notified - you MAY be asked to report of Jury Duty

Go - it's your civic duty
Go reluctantly - knowing you risk losing $$$ while out of work.
Try to honestly get excused - "I don't want to do this, because..."
Try to just get excused! -  I might have TB, can't sit for long periods, hard of hearing, etc.
Demand an excuse - "I am a Racist, Anarchist, Hang 'em all Judge, etc."  tell them anything to show you're BIASED.
Go and deliberately mess with the system, so they'll never make the mistake of calling you, again!
Go just to make sure Justice is DONE and the Perp gets the "chair"
Go just to make sure Social Justice is done and the cops get what's coming.
No opinion
Other - please post..

You want to see the poll results - vote!  There's plenty of options, covering everything I could think of.

The "Survey" came last week, I've never served before - kinda hoping I don't get called in, but if I do, sitting all day is not my cup of tea.
My luck... it'll be a poacher, moonshiner or a strawman gun purchase - anything but a cut-n-dry trial, the food will suck and I'll have to listen to people whine about nothing.

People say the Judge can be really hard on people that try to get out of Jury Duty - is that true or nonsense?

I have been on 3.  Two should not have even gone to court.  The third was for 3 weeks.  They had to educated us for that one is why it took so long.

Totally depends on the County. When I lived in the Capitol of Ca, I was called for jury duty when I was in my 20s, it was my first time, so I knew nothing about the process.
I only owned a bicycle, lived 10 miles from work, got off at 2:00 Am.

Called to do my duty, I only has a couple of hours sleep. When I arrived, I told the clerk I'd like to serve, and went about explaining my circumstance.
We were all called into a courtroom, I no sooner sat down and fell deep asleep, apparently I was snoring and talking in my sleep, because when the bailiff woke me, everyone was laughing, this happened 3 times within a 15 minute span, so I was asked to sit in the lobby, where I fell asleep for hours on a bench.

The next day the judge, a Mr Lee, a pure ass hole, said I was being fined for contempt of court, when I tried to explain, he cut me off and said that'll be another hundred, say another word and I'll triple it.

No one ever told me the city paid for a taxi, no, the city was a perfect reflection of liberalism.

Here in El Dorado County, I've been called several times, and every time there was more than a thousand people in line, so apparently they have such a great turnout, I just get turned away at the door with the other thousand people.

You'd have to be blind and deaf to not serve jury duty here.

I sat on a two day jury selection panel and the judge did not take any excuses.  One woman didn't show up on the second day, and he sent out a warrant on her.  Outside of being dead or in the hospital, I don't know how she avoided the $1800 fine.

Having been in the insurance business I knew no defense attorney would accept me based on history. Therefore I have never served. I knew the Clerk of the court when I was in MS and I would call him if I was summoned. He knew the situation and would dismiss me. In NC I have been called once, but was not selected for the pool that day. Each state has their own system for selecting jurors.

Called once and never server. Maybe it was the 'Hang the guilty bastard' t-shirt?

I'm in the municipal pool now. Luckily justice court case almost always plead out before the court date.

I have served, and found the experience quite interesting, and not a little frustrating. Getting at the facts, as a juror, takes paying as close attention to what is NOT asked of a witness, as what is asked. Neither attorney gives a crap about truth.  They are there to win the case, nothing else.

If called again, I would go, no excuses (other than genuine illness) and answer questions honestly in the selection process.  Civil duty? Yes, it is that. People deserve a fair trial - even the guilty ones - and that includes a fair jury, not juries where half are carrying one agenda or another. IMO, people who view serving as duty are more likely to do their best to be fair in their deliberation.

Sounds like a friend of mine - he keeps getting called, the shirt trick didn't work.  - they plea-bargained and he was dismissed.

His next case appeared to be some kind of accident/injury case, "Give the poor guy whatever he wants & penalize the greedy corporation to teach them a lesson" - he was dismissed.

I suppose... it it were me on trial, I'd want a fair one (for the sake of conscience).

What I don't want is getting stuck with a bunch of high-emotional idiots :scared: that spent every afternoon watching these stupid TV courtroom dramas  - can you take ear plugs to these things? :woot:

Honestly...I would probably be willing to pay $1800 to get out of jury duty.

After my mother had to basically put her life on hold for over a year...worth every cent.  Heck, it probably cost her more than that in gas & parking!  It was the state's longest-serving grand jury ever.

Yes that's true. If you're called I'd show up if I were you. Just not showing up, could result in jail time for ya if you are called and don't show up.

Absolutely right!  I believe stupidity should be painful, so no lawyer would ever allow me on a jury.
