Not sure what your point is.
China is a good example of cultural change through trade.
We opened (the U.S.) its doors in the early 70s and in just a few short decades, a once reclusive culture of communistic control and fear of the outside world, to one of technology and wealth.

Good or bad, trading with ones enemies keeps them from fighting.
