Once China Flu scare dies down, will the real estate market be a sellers' or buyers' market? What's your opinion?
Wife and I are planning on listing our house in the next 2 to 4 weeks and moving to our smaller rural place in Northern Michigan. We have a very good realtor who is also a close personal friend. He seems pretty confident. Just curious as to what's going on in your sector of fire.
My property isn't listed yet. Realtor is already putting the word out to select buyers... and getting bites! His estimated sell price is 10% higher than my top end estimate.
I think it will be both, buyer and seller. The economy is only on hold at the moment.
Realtor sent the contract today. We'll read it over and likely sign tomorrow. Once the house sells... BOOM! I leave my soul-crushing job and retire.
In the mean time, we're packing, cleaning, moving and staging.

I work for 65 years and have been retired over 20 years. I enjoy my work but people were losing their jobs so I retired. So I made way so two could keep their job. I did not need the money, I just enjoyed my work. (and yes the pay  )

I'm planning to retire because the job is affecting my health, because I'm genuinely unhappy with my job and because I have other things I want to do. Will I work in the future? Heck yeah! But it won't be a 60-70 hour per week management job overseeing low-energy, low-IQ, inner city scum.
Update: Realtor is showing the property tomorrow for the first time! Wish me luck.

Bidding war!
Open house tomorrow. I have been off work for two weeks. Packing, loading, moving and cleaning the whole time.

Soon my friend, you'll be free.
Just had a showing of our house. Our realtor said the visit "went great". Sure hope so.

You will know if you get a counteroffer for the house.
Yep. We'll see. I will keep you posted. Selling this house and retiring will be a huge life changing experience.

Yes but you will have the time. I retired and the wife and I did a 10 month walkabout. With a 30' 5th wheel. And we only covered about 3/4 of the US. We only did the back roads of the US. I am an old farm boy at heart and the wife is a city girl. LOL She is now a farm girl and loves it. We are now on 380 acres of land.
Find something you and the wife can enjoy.

Yes, it can be great, but take advantage of the fact your health is still good, because time flies as you know, and before you know it, you won't be leaving the house.
Stay actiive.

Great advice. We have 65 acres in Northern Michigan with a pond and trout stream. We love it there! I can hardly keep her at the house. She keeps finding excuses to "run up to the cabin for a few days."

I promise; I will be more physically active in retirement than working.

One other tiny piece of advice? Don't take on a "special" project that will take more than a year to complete, because you'll never complete it, other shit will come up and you'll always regret never having completed something so near and dear to your heart.
Enjoy the small daily accomplishments, they mean a lot to your mental well being.

If that way my wife, she would say I will be at the cabin. Come up on the weekends if you can. LOL
Updates:
1. Realtor reports lots of interest on the house. One couple is getting close to making an offer.
2. I am working in a very unpleasant job serving mostly inner city scum. Every day is like a BLM block party. Wife (who is far more intelligent than I) found me a job just minutes from our cabin. I applied. They called me just hours later and interviewed yesterday. All went well. We hit it off great! I'm hoping for an offer early next week. I'm very excited, so much so that I actually want to put my retirement plans on hold. If I get this job, I could literally ride a bike to work.

We lowered our asking price per realtor suggestion.
Had our first offer. It was a ridiculous low ball. We just said "no thanks."
Just had our first decent offer. Gonna think about it for a few days. There's another couple who may make an offer as well. Looking good! :)
