Energy Consumption and the Green New Deal

This may not go in this section of the site, but I thought I would post it as it relates to the AOC-crazy (Cortez) Green New Deal ideas being tossed around right now. Someone can move it if it fits better elsewhere.

I found this on electricity energy production:

https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=427&t=3

... very interesting. There is more electric energy from renewable sources being produced than I expected at 17%. These are not necessarily a "win" for the environment as it's not necessarily "green"; I haven't seen an honest accounting for all the materials used to process the renewable energy sources. Natural gas and coal account for 62% of all generated electricity so a short-term phase out of coal is AOC-crazy. Other fossil fuels (including petroleum) produce less than 1% of our electric energy.

There may be a similar stat for automobile power sources. Petroleum will dominate there.

I wonder how auto energy use compares to the electricity use in published statistics? This graphic tells some of the story:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/203325/us--energy-consumption-by-source/

... hard to pin down autos but as a coarse estimate since the petroleum source also contains aircraft, trains, etc. You can basically approximate that autos account for about the same energy consumption as electricity generation.

You've just bought the lie of "Green Energy".
It is nowhere near 17%, in fact it is closer to 3%, if that because they added hydro as one of their components. Problem is, the left for decades has stifled hydro development, so they are not entitled to use that one, they did not develop it, most dams precede the Green movement.
Also on the list is biomass, a practice that's been in place for decades, also note the products being burned, hardly green, not to mention the fact they are all fossil based in nature.

Another is their usurping of geothermal, but their claim of solar is the most laughable of all, as if the sun always shines.
They use the figures in total, and do not include actual output, nor do they include loss of current do to transmission, no, they literally take all the panels, total the panels output as if it all makes it to the grid.
Yes, our govt is lying to us.

If you have a 100 watt panel, you can't claim you are receiving 100 watts of power. Eg. a solar array claiming 10 thousand watts of power is forced to not only match the voltage of the grid, but has to produce more power than the grid just to enter the grid.
This is akin to a garden hose trying to feed a fire hydrant under the same pressure. First you have to increase the output of the hose pressure to above the pressure in the hydrant.
See the loss?

Actually this should be posted under Financial.

I wasn't buying into anything. Rather, asked the question of current break down of usage and was fishing for better / more complete information as you have given some indication of. Certainly some of the percentage claims seem outlandish.

I see. I went to EIA for the breakdown and wasn't really surprised to see how after just two years they completely remapped their figures to include all kinds of crap in the "Green" column.

Yep, when they first started out, they only included solar and wind, though billions have been spent on wind, the return has been a total net loss.
But that didn't stop them, they knew they needed to give the appearance that their Green bullshit was making a difference, so they lumped all energy production that wasn't from oil or Ng, giving the illusion that the Marxist left was making headway towards a "Greener future".... I need a puke smiley for this one.  :sneaky:
