I'm sitting on what gold I have.  The long-lines are surreal.  Gold is more of a family investment, like precious stones.  Buy, then put it away for future family-members. 

In a survivalist world, gold is only as valuable as the-merchant-you're-dealing-with says it is.

That's the problem with gold. it's not edible. In a true financial crisis gold is virtually worthless because there is no demand for it.
These so called "crises" are merely adjustments in the world mkt, a mkt that is no longer free of manipulation, one lacking the ability of self correction, so if govt fails to prop up a false mkt, owning gold should be ones last concern.
