I hadn't heard about a Federal one.

We are having a $.01 per gallon increase in NC as of 1/1/2015. In the reporting nothing has been mentioned about any fed increase and I am sure it would have if one was coming.

Yeah, I think he probably mistook the Ca gouge at taxpayers as a Fed attack, which makes perfect sense, both entities are rooted in Marxism.

CA Republicans proposed two bills aimed to stop a cap-and-trade program for transportation fuels which starts up in January that will increase gasoline prices for motorists across the Golden State.

The Sacramento Bee reported that since 2006 cap-and-trade laws, designed to reduce carbon emissions, have forced companies to purchase permits covering what they put into the air. Up until now producers of transportation fuels have been exempted from buying cap-and-trade allowances. The 2006 law calls for the expanded coverage in January 2015.

Patrick DeHaan a petroleum analyst for price tracker GasBuddy.com, predicts that the new cap-and-trade regulations could produce a 10- to 20-cent-per-gallon increase in fuel prices.

Claiming that the new program will push gas prices upward and burden individual drivers, businesses, schools and farms, Republican lawmakers selected the first day of the 2015-2016 legislative session to announce their bill.

One fantastic result of this collapse in oil prices is the exposure of the local and state tax structure that has found room to grow under $100/barrel oil.

The federal gasoline tax has remained at 18.4 cents/gallon for more than twenty years. But in recent months, that little tax bite has gone from being just a few percentage points to nearly 10 percent of the cost of a gallon of gas. State and local taxes, typically much higher, have suddenly taken stage front as being anywhere from 15-30% or more of the cost of a gallon of unleaded.

When I got my driver's license in Ohio in 1971, I was pumping premium leaded gas into my car and paying around 31 cents/gallon for the privilege. With state and federal taxes alone loading the pump price by 46.4 cents/gallon, those days are clearly gone. In California, the per gallon tax load is 66.87 cents; in New York, it's even higher at 68.65 cents. Check this out. These taxes, which have crept in under an umbrella of artificially inflated oil and gas prices, have created a very rigid floor for prices at the pump.

I read yesterday of a congressman's call to increase the federal gas tax. WTF??!!

Bought another 500 gallon tank yesterday, called around for prices, getting clear diesel delivered in the morning for $2.66 per gal, red dye is $2.16 right now.
Sure it's pricey, but it's two bucks less per gal than just a few months back. Still looking for another tank, if I can find one before the CA BS tax goes into effect, I'll buy another 500 of red dye.
