Those businesses that are able to survive the increasing MW are finding that it is attracting older more qualified and experienced workers. No longer are many of these positions available to the young, first time job seekers. So when your young son or daughter can't get that Summer job, you can thank our Liberal California leaders.
Or......., California could ban illegals, send them back, and the "minimum wage" would rise on its own without government interference. First time job seekers would find a wide range of jobs available, and those with skills would find jobs that pay more also. AND, California could save $. WELL, we damn sure don't want that. Instead, raise minimum wage artificially and see how many small businesses we can put out of business.

And liberals think they know soooo much.

So true. Here in WNC our econmy is good and there is a demand for employees. I dropped by our local Chick-fil-A a few days ago and saw a sign about hiring. Was offering $13 an hour. That is almost twice the MW.

Oddly enough, here in Ca, $15.0 is the going wage in most of the state already, so in truth, a min wage to match is nothing more than a nothing burger.
This is just a typical leftist tactic, calling for something people are already receiving.

Hobby Lobby has a sign in the store, with applications below it, "Starting Wage $15.70 per hr."

My very first job, the MW was $1.25 an hour. I had figured out that by the end of summer I would have enough saved to buy a bike, that was until I got my first check,p I was soooo pissed, I told my dad that I had been ripped off by my boss, he said, yes you were, but it wasn't your boss, it was the govt. He said let this be a lesson in taxes and why you'll be fighting to keep govt as small as possible.

Man, has govt grown like cancer since then. I just hope kids today can look back and be proud of a much smaller govt we gave them. (fingers crossed)

My first job was $0.35 per hour.   Easy to remember, because it took over 10 hours of work to fill the gas tank on my little car... which was about $0.30 a gallon at the time.   By the end of the work week, I had enough money to go downhill skiing and afford a lift ticket with a few snacks.  I found my original Bank Savings Passbook I had as a kid, it said I had less than $10 in it, so I went to the bank, and they had closed the account - decades ago.   Guess I was foolish to think $8.50 might have grown into a cool million... well, not for me at least.

So minimum wage has effectively DOUBLED in the last ten years.  However, in the last 20 years, my hourly wage falls far short of that.  But, my electric rate has doubled, even though fuel costs have gone up and come back down... what's with that?
