Franchisees in California will get hammered unless they are very busy enough to absorb the wage increase. Idiot leftists don't realize franchisees don't have the financial backing of the corporation.

Boo, liberals don't care what happens to the franchisees. They just cannot connect the dots that these folks HIRE people.

Franchise to a lib means corporation which means evil and must be destroyed.
Libs just don't understand business...

The question I have is, Why does government have the right to dictate to private business owners how much they should pay their employees? Why doesn't someone challenge this obvious abuse of the Constitution?

I don't care if the minimum wage is $15 or $2. There shouldn't even be a government-mandated minimum wage.

No The government cannot tell a private business what to pay it's employees. There is also a legal precedent where a policy is discriminatory and therefore illegal  if it disproportionately adversely affects a particular  group of people. Minimum wage adversely affects blacks more than any other group. Therefore it is unconstitutional. The precedent is a court case in Texas involving the Fair Housing Act. I'm not too familiar with the specifics though.

One wonders if higher minimum wages will reduce costs and encourage people to start
businesses.

I saw a blurb yesterday that Target will have $15 minimum wage by 2020. The question now is will they still be in business in 2020. Brick and mortar retailers are already kicking their asses kicked by Amazon. Somehow, raising labor costs does not equate to being more competitive.

Target is a great example.  I try not to purchase anything from there because of their stance on transgender bathrooms, but I was in there recently due to the store being more convenient and they have converted over as many retailers to self-check out.  I absolutely refuse; for one, their system won't allow me to write a check.  You have to use either cash/coin or credit/debit.

So...in essence they maybe raising their wages to $15 ... but they are also trimming their workforce.  I think soon we will see robots lining the shelves as well, so I'm not sure what minimum wage jobs will actually be left.

Those businesses that are able to survive the increasing MW are finding that it is attracting older more qualified and experienced workers. No longer are many of these positions available to the young, first time job seekers. So when your young son or daughter can't get that Summer job, you can thank our Liberal California leaders.
