Colorado to vote on single-payer state health-care system

By   DAVID OLINGER

Residents would choose their own health care providers, but ColoradoCare would pay the bills.

The measure is likely to ignite a fiery debate because of the costs involved. Backers estimate ColoradoCare would raise $25 billion a year for health-care costs through a proposed 10 percent payroll tax. Critics decry it as a massive expansion of government that would double the size of the state budget.

This will be decided in Nov. The voters will choose to go the socialist route for Hc or not. I think the $25B a year is a conservative estimate, and I'm wondering if illegals will be covered.

This has the looks of a guaranteed disaster for the folks of CO. Where does anyone think that 10% payroll tax will come from? I can hear the libs saying right now the employer will pay the tax. Wanna bet?

I'm with you, in fact I see a 50% payroll tax is the only way to cover it, but then, we all know that would bankrupt anyone, business or State, it's just pure communism.

From the article.

QuoteTo pay for state coverage, employers would pay 6.67 percent in payroll taxes and employees would kick in 3.33 percent, for a total of 10 percent of the payroll. Self-employed people would pay 10 percent of their net income. People who qualify for existing federal health programs could continue to receive the same benefits.

I agree with Solar, the 10% tax is way too low, but it probably won't reach 50%.

When the informed voter realizes that this is just one huge tax and expansion of government, they might just tell the socialists to pound sand. The salaries of the 21 panel members will be in the millions and the support staff and infrastructure will be a few more million every year.

The article did say, but I'm willing to bet that illegals will be included in this plan. I also expect
the plan to attract many to relocate just for the free stuff .

Bingo!!! While employers relocate to other states.
These morons don't realize that 7% tax directly effects their own pay, the employer has to make it up somewhere, whether it's a cut in pay, or higher prices to the consumer, there's no such thing as a free lunch. The working class is about to get a serious lesson in failed Marxist policy.

Who will pay for the retired people Live in Colorado?   b o healthcare was to save us 2.500$ a year.  Even with SS I am paying more then 3.000$ a year more.

The working class will pay for retirees and illegals. Unless the retirees are working, then they pay themselves. Those people on military and government health cares plans do not fall under this program.

If approved in November, I wonder how long it will take to force the legislature to go before the voters for a tax increase to cover the over budget costs for the program?

I would say only one year.  In my area I have had insurance companies drop us each year, as there losing money.  That why I have to find a new company for the last 4 year.  Once single-payer gets there nose in the door look out they will keep asking for more and more money.

UPDATE for all Colorado residents.

More Taxes And Regulations Are On Your Colorado Ballot
TAMRA FARAH

Proposals to pile on regulations and soak Coloradans of billions of dollars in new taxes  will crowd the fall ballot. Who can afford to shell out any more of their hard-fought income to various governmental entities? Many Americans, including Coloradans are struggling, and government already has so much.

What are these proposals clamoring for our cash? First, The Terrifying Two found in Amendment 69 and 70.  Government healthcare for all Coloradans through so-called ColoradoCare is on the ballot as Amendment 69. It would be paid for by a 10% increase in income tax, giving Colorado the highest income tax rate in the nation. And that's just the beginning. This tax can be raised again and again as prompted by an unaccountable oversight board. Can you afford that?

If this passes in CO, expect other states to follow.

Read the article, it's not good for CO residents.

Talk about a guaranteed disaster! I bet it passes as so many will believe they will not have to pay for it. Am I safe to assume the democrats are all in for this?

I'm not sure the dems are sold on these two propositions. You know dems. They don't mind spending other peoples money, but not their own. Like all other leftist plans, they sound good on paper, but when you run the numbers, they spell disaster for the people. In addition, massive tax increases in CO are not very popular with the voters and are usually defeated. But if these two pass, look for an exodus from CO - similar to what has been seen in CA.
