a tax observation from Neil Cavuto

He made an observation in regards to flat tax that I had not considered.  I am a big fan of a low rate flat tax, and thought I was pretty well versed on the benefits of it, but I hadn't considered this.

In populations that don't currently pay taxes, their is a tendency to be politically uninformed.  Perhaps if people were helping to pay for the government, they would have a more vested interest in what is going on?  Like when you save up to pay for something, as opposed to when it is handed to you, you care about it more?

Thoughts?

Absolutely!!! This concept goes beyond taxes. I think I've brought it up here before.

This is in regard to the "poor" people on medicaid that take advantage of our emergency rooms, and use them as  primary care centers........................which is very expensive and causes back ups and problems. If we were to charge them just $5 for an emergency room visit, it would probably cut the traffic in half.

We don't have to crush the "supposed" poor, but if they associate the actions that they take with a financial expenditure, (even a small one), they will change their behaviors in a way that will be more responsible.

In other words.........................everyone should have a little "skin" in the game. It makes a difference.

I could carry that thought further, with the food stamp program. Recipients would get the food for free, but would be responsible for paying the sales tax on the things they buy. They would be forced to put some thought into their purchases.

Taxing a person's labor and/or wealth is immoral.

morning Shooter, glad to see you and RP are on this board too

remember when we were much younger and you could not vote on property taxes if you didn't own property ? that has since been outlawed but always made sense to me - if they have skin in the game, they will most assuredly pay closer attention - not God's rules, just the Constitution ....

Damme, Bob, I am glad to see you here. You've fallen in with a scurvy lot now.

I do not believe non property owners should ever vote in elections that carry the possibility of higher taxes.

I agree, same goes for Govt employees, if they must get a vote, it should only count as a half vote, though, I believe they should have no say whatsoever!

I believe, Bob, you will find Solar a tad more laid back about linking to other fora, than Admin, whom Solar and many of us have a long history with. Walks, Solar, Taxed, Quiller, Boo of the Booby Fantasies, Toward Liberty, Repub 2. Hell, I'm sure I left out a slew of folks. Some of us go way back.

BTW, Bob, I am sure you will find that Admin is more than happy to have one proselytizing from another fora unto his, but it is a no no to reverse proselytize.
