An interesting critique of Cain's 999 plan. It's not perfect but this is a great starting point for discussing it.

Bert, you beat me to it...

To start off with, one thing I have learned in my years staying close with the FairTax plan, and my many-a-discussion on the topic of taxation, is that there is a real mental challenge to get people to envision our economy in a non-IRS world.

I metaphorically say people have a Stockholm syndrome-like attachment to the IRS.  Everyone hates it, but the thought of it not being there really creeps people out.  Even I, who has wished for the IRS to be gone for over a decade, must take a conscious time out to set myself into the context of no IRS. It really isn't easy.

We are programmed to think the IRS keeps our society in line, and the government running.

If their worst critque of Cain's 9-9-9 plan is to say that the bottom 50% of Americans can no longer free load off the backs of others then I look at that as a positive. Not a negative.
If you believe big government is the solution then you are a liberal. If you believe big government is the problem then you are a conservative.
