Those among us who survived the 1950s can clearly recall the early days of TV and how music themes changed forever with Henry Mancini's dynamite score for the Blake Edwards TV classic "Peter Gunn."

Here's a clip from an undetermined Steve Allen program, suitably underscoring the importance of this song on Mancini's career. The maestro has a top-shelf major back-up band and absolutely EVERYBODY delivers. It's very well worth your time.

The vid was disabled... but yeah, it's one of the greatest songs ever.  It's written as a melodic abstract for cruising under city streetlights, passing nightclubs... while the trombone-bursts signify gun-shots.

I clicked on the partly-disabled screen-image and it did play.
