Which employer has best health insurance for nurses?
« on: April 09, 2020, 12:24:55 PM »
So, whenever this whole corona virus crisis is over we (my family and I ) are coming over to the states. We gotta plan for health insurance, family plans can be quite expensive as I understand it.

Which employer typically has the best insurance for nurses? So I know where to look for work. Hospitals? Correction facilities?Im assuming nursing homes and Home health might not have the best benefits, but I might also be totally wrong. I have no idea.

Im also looking at joining the reserves (not as a nurse to begin with though need security clearance for that and Im not a citizen yet). I hear they also have good insurance? Not that its my only reason for joining, but it would probably be cheaper than any plan an employer would offer for a family it seems like (228 dollars a month for a family).

I think you may be putting too much emphasis on insurance. If you're young, you really don't need insurance beyond a catastrophic plan, which is generally cheap.
What a lot of people I know do, is create an health investment plan. They are tax free, and if needed you can go to a doctor and workout a payment plan for service, thereby cutting out the middleman, the insurance company, which charges exorbitant rates.

Point is, you'll save thousands every year, and just pay a doctor visit for prescriptions etc. Think about it, you'll save thousands every year, more than enough to pay cash for a new car assuming nothing catastrophic happens, which you'll be insured for.
If I was young, that would be the route I would go, save your money, you'll never recoup it paying out for something you'll seldom use.

Need it for my sons medication so its quite essential for us actually . They Are so expensive that I most defenitely wont be saving much money that way :P but at least the medication is avaliable in the US. In Norway the government has temporarily withdrawn it to reconsider if IT should be covered at all, so people cant get it at all anymore and maybe wont ever. They keep postponing their decison 🤷

Have you checked to see if it's available here, and what the costs are? I know that some pharma co's have programs where you can get meds cheap or even free in some cases.

I have, IT is avaliable and a lot of people only have 15 dollar copays through the pharmacutical companies program, some charities cover if you arr below a certain income (which we wont be). Other than that prices vart depending on your insurance, but IT is also posisble to get it without insurance all together. So there are several options. In Norway we are still just waiting for the government
