Title: Pentagon Workers in Jackpot Over Casino, Strip Card Charges
Post by: walkstall on May 07, 2015, 01:20:59 PM
You have to love the hard working government workers..
So what was going on before July 2013/2014?

snip~
Defense Department workers ran up more than $1 million in charges at casinos and strip clubs with their government-issued credit cards in a single year, a Pentagon audit has found.

Officials told NBC News that taxpayers did not have to foot the bill because the cardholders were required to pay "personal" expenses out of their own pockets.

The charges are against regulations on the use of government credit cards, but they did not violate any laws because they "did not result in the payment or loss of US taxpayer dollars," according to the Pentagon.

Administrative action has already been taken against 364 of the cardholders, while 79 are "pending action." Most of the offenders have undergone "counseling" on the use of the cards, but at least one military officer has been demoted one rank

I heard this story on FNC and was utterly appalled. I had a corporate credit card for over forty years and there was no question about personal use. Abusing this privilege was a dismissing offense. We turned in our expense accounts weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. A team reviewed the charges on the credit card each month and  we had to answer for any charges that might be questionable.

My question is why were these people not fired? Folks, this is a perfect example of why the government is so inefficient. Why do we have all these people on the payroll as managers if there is no accountability? I don't want to hear we have a union contract. Any contract should have clauses that fraud is a dismissal offense.

I also had corporate credit card, our bookkeeper went over it with a fine tooth comb. Tips max were 10%, personal items only if you were out two weeks or more.  But you need a sales slip for everything with dates and town.
