Your thoughts?

But why support Petersen over, say, Gary Johnson, the 2012 Libertarian party nominee? Because Austin Petersen represents the best opportunity for a principle-based victory this November. Inasmuch as Petersen is a consistent advocate for constitutional government, the free-market economics of Friedman and Hayek, reverence for the dignity of universal human liberty (which necessarily includes unborn Americans), and a classical liberal understanding of the pursuit of happiness — not to mention his next-generation promise — he hits the political sweet spot for millions of fed-up Americans. He is skilled and ready to compete in our information-age political arena: Petersen is studied, thoughtful, curious, practical and personable — and capable of more than just delivering a clever quip. Most importantly, Petersen is principled.

Not a fan of libertarians.  Too many Paul-bot types in that party.
The danger to America is not Barack Obama but the citizens capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.

Agree.

The Libertarians only hope is to garner 15% of the vote to get on the debates and earn some recognition for maybe some Congressional races.

Watching Johnson I believe he is a good man, but no one knows him either.

Bill Weld was my Governor and he is the smartest guy in the room to the point of brilliant, I would love to see him serve in any cabinet in some form.

Pro gay marriage, pro abortion, supported a Billion dollar Mexico bailout, supports CGE (Commie Green Energy), I know he used to support gun control. He's in essence a fiscal conservative, but solid social liberal.
What do you think?
Personally, I think both party's fund these guys to run 3rd ticket to keep the Libertarian movement weak.

Yeah he does have a lot of liberal leanings to be a Republican in Massachusetts elected by the largest margin in the states history (71%) I guess you have to have that.

But he did produce results.
"The business community reacted strongly to Weld's leadership. In a 1994 survey of chief executives conducted by the Massachusetts High Technology Council, 83% of those polled rated the state's business climate as good or excellent—up from only 33% at the beginning of his term."

However, in the broader sense IF we do want more parties then it is not so much about getting someone we agree with elected (at least not immediately on the first go-round) but about getting someone we can tolerate to the point where their New Party can establish credibility so that down the road we may have someone we believe in use this vehicle to then really have a chance to win.

IMO.

I really don't think Gary Johnson is at all Presidential material, but I would like to see him do well to the point his Party can get some decent poll numbers to legitimatize the Party for maybe some Congressional wins and down the road who knows, they might bring someone with some talent.  There certainly seems a dearth of talent from all sides nowadays.

Interesting comment about both parties looking to keep Libertarian Movement weak, Solar.  I absolutely agree both parties have rooms of strategists and number crunchers and all they do is calculate statistics and how to move them one way or the other.  Democrats and the GOP is fine with 3rd party movements that have no chance of winning but No body wants another "viable" party, just like the car companies don't want another car company and will unite to that end.

Interesting point, Solar.  Would be fascinating to learn some of what really goes on behind the scenes in this area.

Think Mitten, he too had a great track record as a RINO, even gave them Romneycare, and still they ranked him high.
It's liberal Maine for crying out loud.

Why would we want more party's? There are currently 23 third party's.
If the Libertarian party sincerely wants to succeed, they need to purge the damned libs.

Johnson is the reason the party stagnated at 10%, he is an impediment to Conservatives, and all by design by the Establishment, who can't afford to have the base abandon the GOP.

Yep, it's why the TEA movement was smart, we knew that another third party would instantly fail and TEA would die, so we set our sights on an existing party, and instantly, both party's cooperated in attacking us, (TEA), (Think IRS and Gowdy's phony spectacle of an investigation).

Yeah, both party's have contingency plans regarding 3rd party movements, both agree on which candidates to support, from the Green party to the Libertarian party, they secretly fund the candidate they believe most likely to keep the party weak.
